To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.
The research group
Catharina Lavebratt’s research group Translational Psychiatry at the Deaprtment of Molecular Medicine and Surgery focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms behind psychiatric disorders, to enable better diagnosis, prevention and individualized treatment. Of special interest for this advertisement is research about the neurobiological mechanisms of anorexia nervosa, in particular the mechanims of the brain that maintain starvation.
The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student
This specific doctoral student project utilize reprogrammed cells from patients to create a model of the cells in the areas of the brain regulating appetite and metabolism, with the goal to define how starvation is maintained in anorexia nervosa. This means that the project includes studies with cell cultures and molecular analysis methods. The project also includes handling and analyses of large data sets. The project is headed by Associate Professor Ida Nilsson (main supervisor, https://ki.se/en/people/ida-nilsson).Asa doctoral student you are expected to take a leading role in your research education process under the supervison of your supervisors, You are expected to realize your doctoral project and at the end grow to be independent in your research studies by participating in study design, handling of data and analysis, interpretation and communication of results, take relevant courses and participate in seminars and discussion about scientific reports and research methodology.

- Show proficiency in English equivalent to the course English B/English 6 at Swedish upper secondary school.

Skills and personal qualities
We look for a doctoral student with the following requirements:
- Master exam in medicine, biomedicine, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or related area
- Strong motivation to engage in medical research
- Good knowledge in english, oral and written
- Experience with programming (R, python)
The following competences are advantageous:
- Good knowledge in swedish, oral and written
- Good knowledge about psychiatry and neuroscience
- Good knowledge about statistical methods
- Experience with cell culturing
- Experience of eating disorder care or research
Terms and conditions
The doctoral student will be employed on a doctoral studentship maximum 4 years full-time.
