The Mijakovic laboratory at Chalmers SysBio is recruiting a time-limited Research assistant to work on engineering of bacterial cell factories for production of phosphorylated mammalian caseins. The candidate will be working in a stimulating interdisciplinary environment, collaborating with experts in genetics, microbiology and biochemistry.

Project description
The host laboratory is a vibrant and productive research group with 30+ scientists (mostly postdocs and PhD students) working on various challenges within bio-sustainability and human health. In this particular project, we aim to develop bacterial strains capable of producing caseins in bacterial hosts. The objective is to produce alternative food proteins with a lowered environmental footprint. Qualifications
Mandatory education, skills and experience:
- PhD degree in microbiology.
- Extensive experience with engineering protein phosphorylation systems in bacteria, working with bacterial protein kinases.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Advanced scientific writing skills, ability to write peer reviewed papers independently.

Meritorious experience and skills:
- Experience with graphene-based materials.
- Experience with functionalization of graphene with proteins or peptides. be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

Contract terms
This position is a full-time temporary employment for one year. 
The hired Research assistant will be expected to plan and carry out their research activities, and write scientific publications independently.
