Offer Description

The Westerlund group  is looking for a motivated candidate to work on the data analysis aspects of our work on DNA analysis. We are specialized in methods that image large DNA molecules to identify genetic variations and DNA damage. The candidate will work on all aspects of data analysis on this topic, all the way from image analysis to statistics and bioinformatics.

Information about the division and the department
The Chemical Biology division is the home of seven research groups. We combine and develop protein engineering, synthetic chemistry and state-of-the-art biophysical methos (spectroscopy, live-cell imaging and nanotechnology) to address cutting edge questions in biology to meet medical challenges related to human health. Our joint expertise is strategic and spans from molecular biophysics of single molecules to cell and organism biology.

The Westerlund group uses fluorescence microscopy to image single molecules with a strong focus on DNA. The research ranges from basic science of DNA-protein interactions to clinical and diagnostic applications, in particular for infectious diseases and cancer. To analyse the experiments we need sophisticated mathematical tools in each step of the analysis process, from image analysis to bioinformatics.

Major responsibilities
The person is expected to work on all the steps of data analysis in our projects on analysing long DNA molecules in diagnosing cancer and infectious diseases. This includes image analysis, statistical analysis and bionformatics.

Qualifications
The person should have a PhD degree in a topic related to data and image analysis. The person should have experience in programing for analysing fluorecence microscopy images as well as the subsequent data. Experience in analysing optical DNA mapping data is a strong merit. Extensive experience in presenting research orally and in written form is important.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
Temporary full-time employment (Half year duration).
