The Molecular Evolution Group at EMV is dedicated to decipher chemical processes behind the emergence of multicellularity and the chemical signatures it leaves in its wake. Our exploration spans from understanding the development of normal tissues and organisms on Earth to investigating the growth of tumors within the human body.

The aim of this postdoc scholarship is to study the chemistry within tissues that undergo transformations, using e.g., mathematical models, mass balance modeling, geochemistry or machine learning.

We offer an opportunity for a postdoctoral fellow with expertise in developmental, cancer biology/chemistry or machine learning. Here, you can delve into your own research interests, focusing on how the chemistry within tissues when a new tumor, characterized by highly proliferative cells, emerges in a body. Concurrently, you’ll have the chance to tap into our group’s collective knowledge to gain insights into the chemical signals that endure as prostate and breast cancer develop in the human body.

Skills/Qualifications

The PhD degree must not be older than three years.

- The applicant must not have been employed at Lund University in the past two years.

- The applicant should:

o Have solid understanding of evolutionary biology principles and methods, including but not limited to the life history, tumor evolution, geology, stable isotope chemistry, or mass balance modeling.
o Be self-motivated with a keen interest in keeping up with the latest advancements in both evolutionary biology and machine learning.
o Hold demonstrable problem-solving skills, especially in scenarios where biology and technology intersect.


Specific Requirements

It would be highly advantageous if the applicant:
o Is proficient in machine learning techniques, including supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, and model validation, or interest to learn these.
o Has hands-on experience with popular data science and machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, scikit-learn, PyTorch, etc.
o Is proficient in programming, especially in Python or other data science-related languages.
o Has a track record of published research or projects at the intersection of geochemistry, evolutionary biology and machine learning/data science.
o Has strong statistical analysis skills, with the ability to interpret and convey complex biological data to a non-specialist audience.
o Has read stable isotope geochemistry.
