The Department of Special Collections is responsible for acquiring, storing, and making available the library’s cultural heritage materials, i.e., manuscripts, music materials, maps, pictures, old prints, and other printed collections that are particularly worthy of preservation. The Department’s remit also includes the library’s overall work with exhibits, visits, and displays.

The digitisation of collections through inter-library projects and externally funded grants is an area of priority. We are now seeking a skilled and motivated bookbinder to take part in the ongoing project Av Gustavs Hand [By the hand of Gustavus], which includes the digitisation of manuscripts previously belonging to the private archives of King Gustavus III.

Duties

Your main tasks will be to prepare manuscript materials for image capture and to create bespoke enclosures for the rehousing of the materials. You will take part in a larger working process, where you will contribute to the dismantling of 19th century bindings and the reassembling of the materials into sleeves and boxes.

You may also be involved in repair work on and rehousing of other materials from the Library’s collections.

Requirements

Formal training as a bookbinder, with a certificate or diploma from a recognized institute At least two years of experience working as a bookbinder Good ability to communicate in Swedish or English.

Major emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. You are methodical and precise. You take responsibility, achieve results in your work, and work well with others.
