The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 53 500 students and 6 500 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Neurochemistry Laboratory of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry, The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, announces a time-limited position as an Associate Researcher.

Our research focuses on developing improved diagnostic tools for neurodegenerative conditions, preliminary in biofluids, e.g., blood or cerebrospinal fluid. We have long-standing experience on techniques both for production of monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins for use in assay development and as immunogens and standards in assays. We have vast knowledge on validating (both analytically and clinically) novel methods to implement them in clinical laboratory practice and we are actively driving projects with international collaborations. More recently, we have developed methods for the quantification Alzheimer disease related protein in the blood (phosphorylated tau), which we are now measuring routinely in academic and clinical studies.

Job assignments

The position is for assisting and working closely with researchers in our group. The job description primarily focuses on measuring phosphorylated tau and other biomarkers in large research and clinical cohorts of patients with neurodegenerative dementas, e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, from national and international collaborators using the Single molecular array (Simoa) platform and other immunochemical methods. In addition, the successful applicant(s) will be expected to maintain routine aspects of phosphorylated tau analysis, manage the daily organisation of the Simoa laboratory and assist with other on-going aspect around biofluid analysis. In addition, data quality control and confection of basic scientific reports are required.

Qualifications

The applicant should have some education in the relevant field with at least a master's degree. Experience of Simoa technology is desired but not essential. A requirement is that the applicant has good and documented practical experience of their own laboratory work related to immunoassays. The research group has several English-speaking people and therefore good knowledge of English (speech and writing) is a requirement. This position will suit someone with good communication skills, detailed oriented, organized and who is also flexible, responsible and has personal drive.
