The Department of Textile Technology at the Swedish School of Textiles is seeking an Associate Senior Lecturer in Textile Technology who wishes to be involved in shaping its educational programmes. The Textile Material Technology research group, led by Vincent Nierstrasz, focuses on the modification and functionalisation of surfaces in textile materials for the production of functional and smart textiles as well as textile and polymer biotechnology. Teaching, course coordination, and examination will mainly be within freestanding courses, the Bachelor's and Master's programmes in textile technology, but there will be some teaching in doctoral courses within the doctoral education programme Textiles and Fashion. Teaching in related, non-textile areas may occur.

Job description

The position includes teaching at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, course development, and research and supervision at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. Work tasks also include applying for research funding, serving as an assistant supervisor for doctoral students, and conducting research, as well as publishing in international scholarly journals. This positions provides a teacher with the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to gain both scientific and pedagogical qualifications in order to meet the requirements for a position as Senior Lecturer. Associate Senior Lecturers have the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer at the University of Borås.

The position is placed at the Faculty of Textiles, Engineering and Business in the Department of Textile Technology, with Anders Persson as immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

The position requires a doctoral degree earned no longer than a maximum of five years ago, in textile technology, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, or another applicable field. You should have a strong academic background with research experience generally in textile engineering and specifically in the area of textile chemistry, nanofibre rheology of nanocomposites and inks, and 3D printing on textiles. Furthermore, you should have expertise in functional and smart textiles with a background in leading polymer nanocomposites and electromechanical applications. We also expect you to have experience of participating in and coordinating international research projects related to advanced and smart textiles.

We are seeking someone with experience in teaching textile functionalisation, including dyeing and preparation. These tasks require that you as a person have good collaboration skills, a structured way of working, the ability to take initiative, and can prioritise among tasks. Furthermore, you should be able to communicate well in both written and spoken English.

Priority will be given to applicants who have completed a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence no more than five years before the application period for the position as Associate Senior Lecturer has expired.

For a permanent position at the university, you must have completed training in higher education pedagogy equivalent to 10 weeks of full-time studies or have equivalent knowledge.  This course can be completed during the first two years of employment. Read about qualifying training in higher education pedagogy .
