Our research group at the uses a combination of microbiological, biochemical and structural approaches to study molecular mechanisms of protein synthesis regulation. The research lab is situated at BMC, Lund. We are now looking for assistant researcher in molecular studies of mechanisms of protein synthesis regulation. This is fulltime permanent position with desired start date 2024-08-01 or according to agreement. Probationary employment might be applied.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

As an assistant researcher your main responsibility will be mechanistic studies of protein synthesis regulation. The successful applicant should have a PhD degree in biomedicine, molecular biology or related subject. Job duties include microbiological, genetic, biochemical and molecular biological investigations of mechanisms of protein synthesis. Supervision of PhD students and undergraduate students as well as preparation of research proposals and manuscripts will also be part of the daily duties. Teaching is also a possible work-related task.

Qualifications

The applicant should have good written and spoken communication skills in both Swedish and English, and be able to supervise both undergraduate and graduate students. Experience in successful supervision of PhD students (as a main supervisor, successful completion of the PhD studies), as well as proven ability to write successful applications for external financing is essential.


Requirements for employment are:
• The successful applicant should hold a doctoral degree in biomedicine, biochemistry, molecular biology or related subject.

  • Publications record in international journals, including those as a last author.
  • Good spoken and written proficiency in English.
  • Experience in the research field of protein synthesis. Experience in analysis of gene expression and RNA metabolism. Practical experience in genetics (e.g. construction of genetically modified cell lines), molecular biology (qPCR, Northern, Western blot) biochemistry (e.g. enzymatic assays), and, specifically, mRNA- and ribosome-related biochemistry (e.g. purification of ribosomes, translation auxiliary factors, reconstitution of ribosomal complexes in vitro, toe-printing, sucrose gradient centrifugation assays, RNA labelling, RNA pull-down, ribosome footprint profiling).
  • Successful supervision of PhD students.

Personal skills are of importance. It is crucial that you are structured in your work and can work independently and have good social skills.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Experience in teaching, including lecturing, practical and examination.
