Offer Description

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is offering up to two Assistant Professor positions with tenure track, including the possibility of a generous startup package. Join an international and outward-looking work environment, in the lively city of Gothenburg on the west-coast of Sweden. We offer you the opportunity to turbo-charge you research vision and give you the freedom for you to develop your research and teaching excellence in your goal towards making a real difference.

About the Department
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is a joint department at both Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg. Around 90 faculty members and 120 PhD students, hailing from around 40 different countries, are engaged in research and education across the full spectrum of computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, and interaction design, from foundations to applications. The department is organized into four academic divisions, all of which are potential hosts for the positions: Computer and Network Systems , Computing Science,   Data Science and AI,   and Interaction Design and Software Engineering .

About the positions
Research in security and privacy is a cross-departmental strategic area, read more about it here: https://www.cse.chalmers.se/research/group/security/ . You will contribute to the further strengthening of our profile in the area of cybersecurity through productive independent research, research supervision at all levels, participation in departmental and university-wide activities, applying for external funding, and collaborating with research groups within and outside of Chalmers. The position includes a maximum of 20% departmental  and teaching duties at BSc and MSc levels.

One of the two positions comes with generous support from WASP, the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program . For the WASP supported position, we are interested in applicants with strong potential connections to the WASP program in any of the areas of AI and security, systems security, useable security, and disinformation. WASP offers a substantial startup package including two postdocs (2 years each) and two PhD students (5 years each).

About WASP
Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever, and a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education, and faculty recruitment. The program addresses research on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems acting in collaboration with humans, adapting to their environment through sensors, information, and knowledge, and forming intelligent systems-of-systems.  The vision of WASP is excellent research and competence in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and software for the benefit of Swedish society and industry.

Our offer to you
The appointment as Assistant Professor is a four-year, entry-level, faculty position with tenure track, whereby you will acquire both pedagogical and research qualifications to qualify for a permanent position. An Assistant Professor is expected to improve their ability to formulate and solve scientific problems, to publish scientific articles, and to develop their skills in teaching and supervision, by means of both practical training and independent study. The aim is to achieve the level of Associate Professor within four years and thereby obtain a permanent faculty position at Chalmers.

Note that eventual WASP research funding for the position is available for up to five years, independently of when the candidate is promoted to Associate Professor.

At Chalmers we seek to establish a good work/life balance. We want to provide you with the means to pick the best path possible in your pursuit of making a difference. Our ambitions in this area are reflected in the generous employment conditions, including:

  • holiday allowance of up to 7 weeks per year
  • a collective agreement including parental pay, sick pay supplement, and medicine costs
  • a wellness allowance towards activities promoting good health
  • flexible working conditions

Sweden’s extensive social welfare system means, for example, that you are entitled to 390 days of paid parental leave, and education at all levels is free.
