Offer Description

The position as tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor will allow you to join the dynamic research area of Urban Mobility Systems (UMS) at Chalmers, with an excellent funding base from EU, Swedish Innovation Agency, Swedish Energy Agency, Trafikverket, and Areas of Advance Transport at Chalmers. In close collaboration with many industrial partners and top-tier research institutions around the world, UMS has been actively working on emerging transport topics and technologies, such as electric vehicles, connected automated vehicles and Mobility-as-a-Services, to promote sustainable, efficient, safe, and equitable transportation systems.

Chalmers is proud of its supportive reciprocal working environment, which together with the high social welfare in Sweden ensures an excellent environment for excellent research, yet genuine work-life balance.

Job description
The position is aimed at strengthening research and education in the broad area of transport at Chalmers. Special emphasis is on research about sustainable and intelligent transport systems through interdisciplinary and systematic thinking and solutions. Transport is one of the most important infrastructure systems in society and one of the main contributors to massive energy consumption and emissions. The rapid development of new technologies such as information and communication technologies, electrification, automation, digitalization, user-centric design and new mobility services anchors recent promising advances in the transport sector. These emerging technologies are promising to renovate the current transport systems and significantly contribute to the transition to more sustainable, efficient, safer and equitable mobility systems. Nevertheless, the new technologies also require us to rethink, reuse, reoptimize and plan the existing and future infrastructure and resources to enhance sustainability, efficiency and safety.

In this context, you will build up our competence in addressing challenges for sustainable and intelligent transport systems (at least but not limited to) focusing on one or more of the following topic areas:

· Transportation electrifications
· Traffic management and control technologies
· Transport system analysis and management
· Intergration of multimodal transportation systems
· Holistic and systematic transportation optimization with other systems
· User-centric transport system design and management
· Traffic safety analysis and management
· Other relevant research topics related to sustainable and intelligent transport systems, fitting to the strategy of Swedish Competence Centre in Road Technology, see https://www.kcvag.se/en/hem-english /.

Major responsibilities
We are looking for a person who will add new value to the research and education in the area of urban mobility at ACE. The responsibilities of this position involve research & development, education & supervision, securing research grants, enhancement of your research portfolio, utilization of your research, and development of a good work environment. This is done in collaboration with colleagues at Chalmers, as well as external partners in national and international contexts, from both academia and industry.

Besides research, you will participate in the activities related to the operation of the division/department, contributing to the vision of the department and university, and to an inclusive, equitable, and diverse working environment.

Your profile
You need to have a PhD degree in transportation engineering, civil engineering, or other subjects that fit the requirements of the position. For an assistant professor position, the PhD degree must not be older than 7 years prior to the application deadline. Exceptions can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service*.

Other qualifications include:
· Strong professional/academic track record in the area of sustainable and intelligent transport systems.
· Proven potential (assistant professor) or proven ability (associate professor) to secure research funding to support long-term development.
· Ability to teach transportation-related courses (associate professor), or the ability to develop and the desire to deliver courses in the research area (assistant professor).
· Have experience or ability and desire to supervise and co-supervise PhD, Master and Bachelor students, as appropriate to the candidate's rank.
· High-quality research track record in terms of publications and projects, as appropriate to the candidate's rank.
· You should have excellent writing and communication skills in English. Fluency in Swedish is a merit. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
· Evidence of academic citizenship, such as academic service and organizing academic activities, is a merit.
· Excellent ability to work in a team with other researchers to create a reciprocal working environment.

Note that at Chalmers, we highly value pedagogical skills, and thus the appointed candidate at associate professor level is expected to meet the pedagogical qualification requirements as stated in Rules of Procedure - Chalmers University of Technology's Appointment Regulations for Teaching and Research Faculty . External applicants who do not meet the pedagogical requirements may be employed if the required education is completed within the first three years of employment.

* The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree.
