SciLifeLab (www.scilifelab.se ) is a hub for life science research in Sweden and a collaboration between KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm University and Uppsala University, with additional sites at other major Swedish universities. Everyone at SciLifeLab are employed at one of the partner universities. Since 2013, SciLifeLab has a government assignment as a national infrastructure, to provide cutting-edge life science technologies and -expertise to Swedish researchers, and to be a top international centre for research in health- and environment sciences. SciLifeLab is also hosting a national COVID-19 research program and a new large initiative for Data-Driven Life Sciences, with eleven partner organisations.

The successful candidate will be working at the SciLifeLab Data Centre, a central unit with responsibility for IT- and data management issues, serving the SciLifeLab and the Data Driven Life Science (DDLS) research program. We have a national assignment and, for example, operate the Swedish national Covid-19 research data portal. We also work with issues about FAIR data, open science, and data driven life science, and in close collaboration with major national and international e-infrastructures. Working at the Data Centre, you will be at the core of Sweden’s top infrastructure for life sciences and have the opportunity to actively shape how state-of-the-art IT and data science are integrated in Swedish life science research, and help to maximize the scientific impact of the large amount of research data generated at SciLifeLab. You will work in a team with researchers, data engineers, data stewards and system developers in a rapidly growing, dynamic and progressive team with a leading role in Swedish data driven life science. Our major task now is to build a national framework for life science data – the DDLS data platform. The unit is hosted at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University, but the successful candidate can be placed either in Uppsala or at the SciLifeLab campus in Solna.

Job description: SciLifeLab Data Centre is looking for 1-3 System developers. Within the new national data platform for SciLifeLab and the DDLS program, we will build services for service units and research groups within life science.. The work is done in collaboration with SciLifeLab’s technology platforms, and will include both new development, existing software components and commercial systems. Design and testing of systems together with users and engineers will also be part of the work.. You will work in a team of researchers, engineers, data stewards and system developers, in the middle of SciLifeLab’s national research infrastructure. The work will include collaborations between SciLifeLab and national e-infrastructures.

Qualifications: This job requires a university degree in a relevant subject area.
In addition is required:

  • Documented experience of virtualization and / or container-based systems
  • Documented experience of scientific programming
  • Documented experience of development of systems with a large user base
  • Documented experience of version control systems, e.g. Git
  • Documented experience of Linux-based systems
  • Experience of relevant programming languages, eg Python
  • Fluent English

Meriting:

  • Experience of GPU-based computing environments
  • Knowledge of hardware architecture
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other orchestration systems
  • Knowledge or interest in biomedical research and infrastructure.
  • Ability to work both individually and in collaboration with colleagues in different fields
  • Diligence, initiative and an interest in supporting Swedish research in computer-driven life sciences
