With around 3 700 full-time equivalent students, 500 employees and 160 international partner universities, the main subjects of economics and law, and its four departments, the School of Business, Economics and Law offers a unique range. The School also provides unique collaborations with industry and the public sector. The School of Business, Economics and Law is EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA accredited.

The Department of Economy and Society at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg announces one or two positions as Postdoctoral scholar located at the Unit of Economic History. The department conducts education and research within three different subject areas; Economic History, Human Geography, and Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management of Intellectual Asset. The different subjects within the department create possibilities to carry out interdisciplinary education and research.

Subject Area Descpription

The Unit for Economic History conducts research and education within the field, which includes studies of economic and social development in a long-run perspective. The studies concern current topics relating to globalisation, the environment, migration and gender from the perspective of economic history. Classical issues relating to economic growth and distribution are also studied. The unit also has a group carrying out research within the field of business history. The unit offers doctoral education as well as single-subject courses on Bachelor´s and Master´s level, which gives the possibility to complete a Bachelor´s and Master´s degree. Job assignments

The employment as a postdoctoral fellow aims to provide the employee an early-career opportunity to develop as a researcher and gather merits for future positions in academia. The announced positions also aim to promote the supply of skilled economic historians. The position will allow the employees to do and publish research, to initiate new projects and to write research applications. The position is primarily focused on research, but it can also include teaching, a maximum of 20% of the employment. The teaching includes lectures, seminars, examininations or supervision of theses. To further strengthen our research and teaching in the field economic history, we search for 1 to 2 postdoctoral scholars. One of the positions will be within economic history in its broad term, while the other one will be within the area of business history.


Qualifications

Qualification for the employment is set in the University of Gothenburg's appointments procedure. Eligibility is granted to someone who has completed a doctoral degree in economic history or has a foreign degree that upon assessment is considered equivalent to a doctoral degree. The doctoral degree must be completed by the time of the unit’s final decision.

Eligibility requires that the applicant completed a doctoral degree no more than three years before the deadline of the application. If special circumstances apply, those with an earlier completion of degree will also be considered. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical service or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

In the assessment of the relative merits of the applicants, great importance will be placed on current activity in research and teaching in economic history and/or business history. The applicant should have demonstrated experience of research methods commonly employed within economic history or business history. Publication in high-quality scientific journals in economic history or business history, participation in the scientific community and the ability to write successful research application will carry significant weight.

Personal characteristics important for the position include the ability to manage team work as well as to work autonomously.

Qualified is the person who masters English in speech and writing.


Employment

The employment is a temporary employment during three years with an extent of 100 % of full time, located at Unit of Economic History, the Department of Economy and Society, School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg. Starting date is 2022-09-01 or upon agreement.
