The department of Cell and Molecular Biology (ICM) is one of the most internationally diverse, scientifically broad, and eminent departments of biomolecular sciences in Europe. The research at ICM is divided into seven main areas, covering everything from cell biology to molecular biophysics. You will be employed by ICM and you will at the same time be tied to the National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS) and Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab).
SciLifeLab (www.scilifelab.se ) is a hub for life science research in Sweden and a collaboration between Swedish universities. Everyone at SciLifeLab is employed at one of the partner universities. Since 2013, SciLifeLab has been assigned by the Swedish government to operate national infrastructure, to provide cutting-edge life science technologies and expertise to Swedish researchers, and to be a top international centre for research in health- and environment sciences. SciLifeLab is also hosting the research programme for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS), with eleven partner organisations.
NBIS is a distributed national research infrastructure with funding from Vetenskapsrådet (the Swedish Research Council), Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation, SciLifeLab and Swedish universities. The purpose of NBIS is to provide bioinformatics support and infrastructure to Life Science researchers. NBIS has approximately 120 experts distributed around the country with expertise in a wide variety of bioinformatics analysis, as well as in systems development. As the Swedish node in the European bioinformatics infrastructure network ELIXIR, NBIS is involved in several collaborative efforts to strengthen the pan-European bioinformatics infrastructure. At NBIS there is a group of experts focused on supporting Swedish Life Science researchers with data management according to the principles of Open Science and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), in close collaboration with the SciLifeLab Data Centre. We are now looking for a couple of Data Stewards to further strengthen the data management competence. A particular focus will be on management on clinically related sensitive research data, especially to meet the growing demand through the large European 1+MG initiative that will make more than one million whole genome sequences available. More information about NBIS may be found at https://nbis.se/
Work duties
We are looking for a person who wants to enable Life Science research in Sweden that is beyond what is achievable for individual researchers, a single university, or a single research area.
You will contribute to development activities in international projects concerning management of genomic data and medical informatics where NBIS is active, to enable the visions of the 1+MG-initiative (e.g. European Genome Data Infrastructure and Genome of Europe). A large focus will be to establish and perform procedures for user support to researchers wanting to deposit human genetic data. An important part of the work is also to educate researchers in data management best practices, as well as to engage in Research Data Management competence networking within Sweden.
Required qualifications
The applicant shall have a master's degree within the areas of Life Science, Information Technology, or Bioinformatics, or shall possess an equivalent or higher level of understanding within one or several of these areas acquired by other means. Experience of working with and/or describing clinical or other sensitive data using relevant metadata standards, ontologies and controlled vocabularies. The applicant shall be well versed in the principles of Open Science and FAIR, and their application. Documented experience in coordination and communication, as well as documentation of ongoing work.
Emphasis will be put on personal suitability. The applicant shall have good interpersonal and communication skills, and be self-motivated. You should be service minded and able to adapt. You should also be quality conscious and result oriented. You should be able to communicate in English in both speech and writing.
Meriting
- Experience of working with medical informatics or clinical genomics
- Familiarity with Swedish legislation regarding personal data and research ethics
- Experience of international repositories for deposition of Life Science data
- Experience of developing and working according to standard operating procedures
- Experience of working with user support.
- Experience of working in international collaborations or networks
- Experience of working with data management plans
- Experience of teaching
