Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 54,000 students, more than 7,500 employees and a turnover of around SEK 8 billion.
The Department of Cell and Molecular Biologyis organized into seven research programmes which all focus on different areas of cell and molecular biology: Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Evolution, Molecular Systems Biology and Structural Biology. The scientific basis of what we do lies in biology, but our research overlaps with other areas such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering sciences and physics. In total, we are over 200 staff and ~60 Ph.D. students. Please read more about the department’s work at https://icm.uu.se .
You will be employed by ICM and you will at the same time be tied to the National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS) and Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab).
SciLifeLab is a national centre for molecular biosciences focusing on health and environmental research. The centre combines leading expertise with advanced knowledge in translational medicine and molecular biosciences. The goal of SciLifeLab also includes building a strong research community around itself through education and collaboration. SciLifeLab is a national resource run by Karolinska Institutet (KI), Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH), Stockholm University and Uppsala University. SciLifeLab was founded in 2010 and currently has 570 employees at the various facilities and about 250 research groups. See http://www.scilifelab.se/ for further information.
NBIS is a distributed national research infrastructure with funding from Vetenskapsrådet (the Swedish Research Council), Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation, SciLifeLab and Swedish universities. The purpose of NBIS is to provide bioinformatics support and infrastructure to Life Science researchers. NBIS has approximately 120 experts distributed around the country with expertise in a wide variety of bioinformatics analysis, as well as in systems development. As the Swedish node in the European bioinformatics infrastructure network ELIXIR, NBIS is involved in several collaborative efforts to strengthen the pan-European bioinformatics infrastructure. At NBIS there is also a group of experts focused on supporting Swedish Life Science researchers with data management according to the principles of Open Science and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), in close collaboration with the SciLifeLab Data Centre. During the last two years, we have grown from two to seven persons, and we are now looking for more Data Stewards to further strengthen the data management competence, with a certain focus on management on clinically related sensitive research data, especially to meet the growing demand through the large European 1+MG initiative that will make more than one million whole genome sequences available. More information about NBIS may be found at https://nbis.se/
We are looking for persons that want to enable Life Science research in Sweden that is beyond what is achievable for individual researchers, a single university, or a single research area. You will work closely with and guide research groups regarding Data Management Plans, and how they shall structure and publish the research data that they generate. A large focus will be to establish and perform procedures for user support to researchers wanting to deposit human genetic data. An important part of the work is also to educate researchers in data management best practices. You are also expected to contribute to Research Data Management competence networking within Sweden, as well as in Data Management capability development efforts internationally in the ELIXIR network.
The applicant shall have a master’s degree within the areas of Life Science, Information Technology, or Bioinformatics, or shall possess an equivalent or higher level of understanding within one or several of these areas acquired by other means. The applicant shall have knowledge about the principles of Open Science and FAIR. The applicant should furthermore have a documented experience of teaching at the university level.
The applicant shall have good interpersonal and communication skills, and be self-motivated. You should be service minded and able to adapt. You should also be quality conscious and result oriented. You should be able to communicate in English in both speech and writing. Emphasis will be put on personal suitability.
