We offer a PhD position in the 2DSPM group led by Dr. Miguel M. Ugeda at the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC, San Sebastián, Spain) to carry out cutting-edge research in the field of superconductivity in novel 2D materials. The long-term goal of this project is to leverage knowledge of the fundamental Cooper pairing mechanisms in unconventional 2D superconductors as well as to unveil their link to magnetism.
This project will also pursue the creation and control of exotic electronic phases by 2D materials engineering. The position will provide the candidate thorough scientific training in an excellent research environment. The candidate will develop new knowledge in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) for the growth of 2D materials and will become an expert in several experimental techniques for the structural, electronic and magnetic characterization of 2D superconductors and complex heterostructures.
The candidate will also acquire expertise in other techniques such as atomic force microscopy (AFM), angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and neutron and X-ray diffraction. The training will also focus on acquiring key skills towards an independent career, such as attaining original, independent and critical thinking, learn how to give successful oral presentations and learn how to write scientific papers. This position will allow the candidate to grow in prominence and stature in the Materials Science community, which will be valuable for his/her future in both the academia and industry.
Required Qualifications:
? Applicants must have a degree in physics/chemistry (or close to completion).
? Oral and written competency in the English language is essential.
? The candidate must be enthusiastic and highly motivated.
