UNCHARTED is seeking to appoint a partial-time pre-doc researcher (7h by week) for 7 months (1rst February 2021 – 4th September 2021) H2020 European Project UNCHARTED: “Understanding, Capturing and Fostering the Societal Value of Culture”

UNCHARTED seeks to provide a comparative, holistic and integrated vision of the plurality of values associated with culture in contemporary Europe. It also attempts to articulate this vision to cultural policy analysis. The research work focuses on the valuation practices of the actors involved in cultural life. In this respect, three areas and three types of fundamental actors in the value dynamics of culture are distinguished: the field of cultural participation, in which citizenship is the protagonist; the field of cultural production and heritage, where the professionals of creation and preservation are the ones who take the initiative; and the field of cultural administration, in which it is the experts and politicians who decide. The project takes these three areas and this basic typology of actors as a starting point to structure the study of the different aspects involved in this evaluative dynamic: the emergence of values, the configuration of a value order and the political impulse of values.

Description

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in the field of Culture Management or Cultural Policy (with a research orientation) and a Bachelor’s degree in the field of social sciences. Track record in social sciences research with expertise in qualitative research and the management of specialized database. Demonstrable knowledge and experience in public cultural policies research with focus in multilevel governance and socially innovative processes in the cultural field. Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results. Linkage and participation in postgraduate training programs and centres of study on social aspects of contemporary culture and cultural policy would be an asset.

The duties of the researcher during this period are:

 To make an extensive review of the research literature on the configuration of the values of culture.

 To Identify the plurality of values of culture in cultural production.

 To identify and analyze the plurality of values of culture in cultural production.

 To write a report on the emergence of values in cultural production.
