UNCHARTED is seeking to appoint a partial-time Post-doc Researcher (20h by week) for 11 months (20th April 2022 – 20th March 2023) H2020 European Project UNCHARTED: “Understanding, Capturing and Fostering the Societal Value of Culture”

UNCHARTED seeks to provide a comparative, holistic and integrated vision of the plurality of values associated with culture in contemporary Europe. It also attempts to articulate this vision to cultural policy analysis. The research work focuses on the valuation practices of the actors involved in cultural life. In this respect, three areas and three types of fundamental actors in the value dynamics of culture are distinguished: the field of cultural participation, in which citizenship is the protagonist; the field of cultural production and heritage, where the professionals of creation and preservation are the ones who take the initiative; and the field of cultural administration, in which it is the experts and politicians who decide. The project takes these three areas and this basic typology of actors as a starting point to structure the study of the different aspects involved in this evaluative dynamic: the emergence of values, the configuration of a value order and the political impulse of values.

Description

Applicants must have a PhD in Sociology, preferably in the fields of Art and Culture. Experience and capacity of research related to cultural production, ways of circulation and valorization of artistic and cultural practices and goods at both regional and international levels must be accredited. In the same way, links with programs or centers of study on social aspects of contemporary culture and cultural policy will be positively valued.

The duties of the researcher and project manager during this period are:

• Managing the day-to-day operational aspects of the UNCHARTED Project.
• Having a clear picture of the project’s deliverables and timelines, to ensure coordination among partners and timely delivery.
• Ensuring communication between the partners of the project and associated members.
• Assisting UB research team in carrying out documentary research.
• To analyse the practices of evaluation in cultural production
• To identify and analyse the mains tensions in valuations of culture in the field of cultural production.

To write a report on grammar of valuation in cultural production.
