Both junior researchers will work at the project titled “COVIDEU: The COVIDEU Project studies the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on support for the European Union” under the close supervision of Toni Rodon (www.tonirodon.cat )

Research line: Comparative politics, Political Behaviour and Political Economy

The project COVIDEU studies how the pandemic shock has influenced EU support by citizens. Drawing from insights from political behaviour, social psychology and political communication, the project studies the impact of the pandemic through six work packages. The project is developed in five different EU-leading universities, including the UPF. The Barcelona team is in charge of WP2 “The effect of EU policy measures”. As part of this WP, the UPF team is developing a field experiment to study the effect of civic education measures on attitudes towards the EU.

The RAs will liaise with the team at the UPF Ciutadella Campus (Mercè Rodoreda 24 Building), although their main tasks will be performed in different high schools around Catalonia.

Most of the supervision will thus be done through video-calls and emails.

Maintasks: The main tasks for the junior researchers will be:

To contact a list of high schools and offer to teach a session on civic education related to the upcoming EU elections.

To organise the visits to the schools and perform the session (which has already been designed by the members of the team).

To perform the different tasks during the sessions, including the administration of questionnaires.

1. Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in any field (preference for social sciences).

2. High level of fluency in spoken Catalan, Spanish and English.

3. Sufficient knowledge of Power Point.

4. Previous experience on teaching in high schools.

5. Be meticulous and able to work in a quite autonomous way.

Benefits

Part time position: We offer two contracts:

• RA 1: 7.5 hours a week. (5 Months - part-time)
• RA 2: 7.5 hours a week (4 months – part-time)

Group: 3

If the amount of work requires it, there is the possibility of increasing this number of hours for both contracts (or one of them) or the extension of the contract depending on the availability of the selected candidates and the project budget.

Salary/duration/benefits:

• RA 1: Gross monthly salary is 432.32€ aprox.
• RA 2: Gross monthly salary is 432.32€ aprox.

The labour contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security System.

The candidates will start as soon as possible. The expected duration of the tasks is 4 months, but it could be extended if both parties agree and there are more tasks to be done.
