Description

The IE School of Architecture and Design seeks qualified candidates for the appointment of two full-time tenure-track assistant professors of Design.  We are seeking candidates with expertise in:

1) Social Sciences and Design. Fields such as Anthropology, Sociology, or cultural studies and can link this approach and knowledge with a strong understanding and/or practice in Design.

2)  Designer specializing in strategic design, service design, industrial design, material design, or similar especially as related to sustainability, innovation, and including such concepts as circular economy, life-cycle analysis, and tools and techniques both analog and digital.

IE School of Architecture and Design is part of IE University, a leading academic institution located in Segovia and Madrid, Spain.  With an international and diverse student, faculty, and staff population, the new faculty members would teach in the Bachelor in Design program, an integrated degree that seeks to train responsible future designers with a rigorous, holistic approach and are committed to sustainability and social innovation.  The faculty would also contribute to advanced degree programs, such as the master’s in strategic interior design, master’s in architecture, or others in development.

English fluency is required, proficiency in Spanish is desirable though not required.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a strong record of research and professional activity in the relevant field, with a special focus on pedagogical innovation and excellence in teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.  Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or be in the advanced stages of the doctoral dissertation in a design field or social sciences with a design focus. 

In addition to teaching in the relevant field, the successful candidates will be responsible for coordinating selected coursework in the undergraduate degree, developing new programs related to design, sustainability, and technology, and strengthening the use of social sciences as a tool for design research and practice.

The successful candidates will also be effective ambassadors for IE University and the IE School of Architecture and Design, through scholarly and professional activity. Preferred Candidates will show great promise in teaching, service, and research.
