About your role

We are looking for a technical assistance in the area of Research for Bactericide Biomaterials  for Dentistry and Orthopaedics to undertake research under the supervision of Professor Javier Gil Mur . 

Key tasks

The technical assistance will participate research tasks, cell culture, microbiology studies and the study about the interaction’s biomaterials-cell-bacteria, and directed at contributions for the preparation of biomaterials surfaces. The in vivo study with histologies and histomorphometry will be studied.

Duties will include:

  • Preparation and characterization of the biomaterials surfaces.
  • Molecular and cells (mainly fibroblasts and osteoblasts) biology and microbiology (mainly biofilm) techniques.
  • In vivo studies. Histology and histomorphometry.

 

The technical assistance is expected to maintain a well-organized lab notebook, develop proficiency in relevant literature in this research area, be involved in the preparation of first-and co-authored manuscripts as well as research proposals, and make presentations at professional meetings.

The position might include part-time work in other projects of relevance for biomaterials development, including some for corporate partners.

    • Official Master (Microbiology or related with biological sciences)
    • Previous work for clinic analysis.

    Eligibility criteria

    The following aspects of the applicant's CV will be taken into account:

    Professional knowledge and experience. (75%)

    • Research experience abroad in the area of cell culture and microbiology will be valued (50%).
    • Specific techniques (35%):   
      • Physical-chemical surface and materials bulk characterization,
      • cell culture lab and related cell and molecular characterization techniques,
      • microbiology lab and related cell and molecular characterization techniques,
      • statistical analysis,
      • specialized software.
    • Proficiency in speaking and writing in English (10%). 
    • Experience in industry (5%).

    Selection process

    The UIC Barcelona selection process, following that which is outlined in the European OTM-R, will be carried out in two phases: a first pre-selection phase and a second interview phase.

    The PI of the project will be tasked with carrying out both phases, both the initial evaluation and the subsequent interview. He might partner with other experts inside and outside of UIC Barcelona for completing the two phases of the selection process.
