The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies. 

In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research ' Award from the European Commission. The role  

We are seeking a Strategic Grants Specialist to join our Strategy and Funding (SaF) department, playing a pivotal role in aligning our funding acquisition efforts with the CRG’s strategic plan, particularly in the realms of Quantitative Biology and Medical Genomics, as supported by the Severo Ochoa Award. This position is crucial for leveraging competitive funding opportunities that advance our mission to transform biomedical research into a quantitative, predictive, and actionable science. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Identify and secure funding from EU and international sources that support CRG's strategic goals, including Quantitative Biology, transformative technologies, and the Medical Genomics Programme, in line with Severo Ochoa objectives.  

  • Guide and support all stages of grant proposal development for research and innovation grant proposals, ensuring aliment with strategic priorities. 

  • Foster the preparation of a range of grant proposals to advance quantitative approaches across the centre, spanning individual projects, partnerships with clinical groups, non-academic sector (including biotech and pharma industries), and international consortia, thereby enhancing CRG’s translational research capacity and societal impact. 

  • Coordinate the acceptance process for grants, closely coordinating with the relevant departments (administrative, financial and legal) to ensure a seamless hand-over for their effective management. 

  • Serve as a critical liaison for interdisciplinary collaborations, ensuring that funding strategies are inclusive of our quantitative biology focus and support the creation of a collaborative ecosystem that spans local and international partners. 

  • Participate actively in the transversal activities of the department, such as internal policy development, ethical considerations in science policy, and initiatives that bolster our commitments to open and responsible research, innovation, and sustainability, all core values reflected in our strategic plan. 

Occasional travelling is required locally and abroad. 
 

About the team/ lab/ department  

The SaF Department focuses on fostering excellence at the CRG by creating new opportunities in projects and collaborations for the scientific community. The team provides strategic advice and support to the Director; fosters and coordinates institutional projects and collaborations; supports the CRG community in securing competitive funds for research and institute-related activities; provides comprehensive support in the preparation and submission of proposals and in grant acceptance process and acts as a liaison with the funding agencies or sponsors/donors. 

Whom would we like to hire?  

Professional experience 

Must Have 

 

  • You have a minimum 3 years in a relevant role, with a proven track record in managing and securing grant applications aligned with strategic research initiatives, preferably within a life-science environment. 

 

Desirable but not required/ Nice to have 

  • Ability in identifying strategic funding opportunities, crafting compelling proposals, and fostering meaningful collaborations.  

 

Education and training 

  • University degree, with a preference for backgrounds in Life Sciences 

  • A PhD degree in Life Sciences or related fields may be an advantage 

 

Languages 

  • Fluent in English and Spanish, with proficiency in Catalan being a plus. 

 

Technical skills 

  • You are an advanced user of MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Power Point)

  • Contract duration: Open-ended linked to the project. 

  • Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with the qualifications of the candidates and the senior profile of the position and is consistent with our pay scales
