The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG-CRG) is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe. CNAG-CRG researchers participate in major International Genomic Initiatives such as the Human Cell Atlas Project (HCA), the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), the International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC), the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC) and the European Infrastructure for life-science information (ELIXIR), as well as in several EU-funded projects.
The CNAG-CRG aims to carry out large-scale projects in DNA/RNA sequence analysis for the improvement of quality of life in collaboration with the Spanish, European and International Research Community. CNAG-CRG occupies approximately 1,400 square meters with a park of 4 Illumina instruments (3 NovaSeq6000 and 1 MiSeq) and 5 Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencers (3 MinION Mk1, 1 GridION Mk1 and 1 PromethION 24) that produce more than 7 Tbases of sequencing data per day. The sequencing operation is supported by an extensive informatics infrastructure: 7.6 petabyte of data storage, 3.552 of computing cores, an internal 56 Gb/s network and multiple 10 Gb/s direct physical connections to the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC, www.bsc.es ) which has over 48,000 compute cores.
The integrated CNAG-CRG infrastructure has one of the largest DNA sequencing capacities in Europe. The operation is certified ISO 9001 and accredited ISO 17025 and serves to deliver standardized, high-quality data for research and clinics. Single-cell genomics and long-read sequencing are strategic priorities for CNAG-CRG.
The CNAG is integrated with the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG shares principles of an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team that is supported by high-end and innovative technologies and a flexible and efficient administration.
In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research ' Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code).

The role
The candidate will be integrated in the Single Cell Genomics Team, a highly collaborative, international work environment with well-experienced colleagues in single-cell data production and analysis. He/she will be involved in project designs and will be responsible for sample preparation with established single-cell and spatial sequencing applications. Further tasks will involve the implementation of novel cell/molecular biology techniques as well as emerging sequencing protocols. The candidate will lead and coordinate large-scale data production efforts for selected projects and will be involved in collaborative efforts with our research and clinical partners.
About the team
The Single Cell Genomics Team at the CNAG-CRG is dedicated to advance genome research of single cells. The mission of the group is the implementation of latest single-cell and spatial sequencing technologies and their application in a research and translational contexts (e.g. immuno-oncology).
The group focuses on the systematic integration of transcriptional and epigenetic data from individual cells to elucidate causalities underlying phenotype formation in health and disease. We successfully established sequencing protocols to quantify gene expression and open chromatin of hundred-thousands of single cells.
Our newly developed computational pipelines include methods to deconvolute tissue composition and to track transcriptional dynamics. Our international team joins computational, technical and biological knowledge in order to promote creative thinking while establishing best practices in single-cell research. The group combines collaborative research, development activities and follows research lines on the generation of human cell atlases and immuno-oncology. We are member of the Human Cell Atlas Project and the LifeTime Initiative. Web: http://www.cnag.cat/teams/genome-research-unit/single-cell-genomics-team
