Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The mission of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is to achieve the highest level of scientific and technological excellence in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Its research lines focus on the newly-discovered physical and chemical properties that arise from the behavior of matter at the nanoscale. ICN2 has been awarded with the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence distinction for two consecutive periods (2014-2018 and 2018-2022). ICN2 comprises 19 Research Groups, 7 Technical Development and Support Units and Facilities, and 2 Research Platforms, covering different areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Job Title: Senior Postdoctoral Researcher

Research area or group: Physics and Engineering of Nanodevices

Description of Group/Project:

Magnetism in van der Walls heterostructures

Main Tasks and responsibilities:

The selected candidate will carry out the growth of (magnetic) topological-insulator based heterostructures and investigate 2D ferromagnetic systems. S/he will use molecular beam epitaxy and will design the devices and fabricate them with electron-beam lithography and keep a fluent communication with our collaborators. The experiments will require expertise on advanced characterization in synchortron facilities, in particular x-ray circular dichroism.

Requeriments:

PhD on Physics or equivalent.

  • Knowledge, professional experience and competences

Expertise on growth and characterization of topological insulators of the bismuth telluride family by molecular beam epitaxy, including device nanofabrication is mandatory.

Knowledge on spintronics and magnetism and characterization using advanced techniques such as XMCD, TEM, XRD and XPS are a requirement.

Summary of conditions:

  • Part time work
  • Contract Length: Temporary (4 months)
  • Support to the relocation issues.
  • Life Insurance.

Estimated Incorporation date: September 2021

How to apply:

All applications must be made via the ICN2 website and include the following:

  • A cover letter.
  • A full CV including contact details.
  • 2 Reference letters or referee contacts.
  • Deadline: 27th August 2021

Applications will be evaluated as they are received
