Updated: over 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 12 Dec 2021

The i2CAT Foundation is looking for a Senior R&D Engineer / Researcher to join the IoT Research Line.

The successful candidate will work on the design, implementation and development of IoT solutions and their evaluation in real environments. The candidate is expected to have the ability to lead research or technology transfer projects and lead work teams.

We are looking for someone who will be part of the work team of the project “FemIoT” project where he/she will collaborate with researchers and engineers from different research centers to define and develop solutions to improve connectivity, services and applications of the cities of the future. In this sense, it will work in the following areas:

  • IoT technologies applied to cities. We expect to obtain a comparative analysis of low-power IoT technologies for its use in urban environments. The evaluation of the technologies will be based on both, experimental validations and theoretical or analytical studies. There will also be work done on the proposal, improvement and implementation of IoT solutions in these cases. Finally, he/she will participate in the design and implementation of a multi-technology gateway that incorporates IoT interfaces (such as LPWAN technologies) for capturing data from devices installed in the city or for transmitting information.
  • Location and positioning solutions based on IoT technologies. Evaluation and implementation of systems based on the use of one or more technologies, such as UWB or inertial sensors, that improve the performance of GPS.

** Work will be done to integrate these solutions with vehicle communication equipment to develop advanced applications and services that improve the safety and circulation of vulnerable vehicles, such as bicycles or scooters, in the city.

  • Implementation (software and hardware) of prototypes and demonstrators. These demonstrators will be developed and validated under realistic conditions applied to use cases in urban environments.

The offered position requires proven mastery and experience in designing and developing firmware and software for IoT devices. The selected person is expected to be able to work autonomously on advanced, efficient and optimized IoT solutions, both in the energy field and in the communication protocols used.

Finally, the candidate is expected to be actively involved in the definition and proposal of new IoT research and technology transfer solutions or projects.

The researcher will be part of the Mobile and Wireless Internet (MWI) group at i2CAT. More information can be found here: https://www.i2cat.net/research-topics/mobile-wireless-internet/
