SCIENTIST POSITIONS at IMDEA Materials Institute

IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. IMDEA Materials currently includes more than 120 researchers from 17 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe, which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities are focused in the areas of materials for transport, energy and health care. The Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials. More information can be found at https://www.materials.imdea.org<>< a=""> />
IMDEA Materials has opened two new positions of either Researchers (tenure-track) or Senior Researchers (tenured) in the following areas:

- Materials for energy conversion and/or storage with particular emphasis in one of the following areas: synthesis and characterization of new materials, mesoporous nanomaterials, nanostructured surfaces, etc. for energy storing devices (batteries, supercapacitors) and/or catalysis (photo, electro), including advanced electrochemical methods and in situ materials characterisation. The researcher is expected to take advantage of the current capabilities of the institute in advanced processing, characterization and simulation of materials to establish a multidisciplinary program in materials for energy applications (Reference IC2021_01).

- Mechanical/acoustic metamaterials, including the design, fabrication, characterization and/or modelling/simulation of metamaterials with unique mechanical and/or functional properties. The research activities should demonstrate the potential for strong collaborations with other research groups in the institute to expand their use in mechanical, acoustic, biomedical, energy storage and harvesting and/or thermal management applications (Reference IC2021_02).

Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in Materials Science (or related discipline) and demonstrate the ability to carry out independent research which combines high-quality scientific research with the capability to attract funding, particularly for senior appointments. Leadership and aptitude to develop an independent research group and to establish strong multidisciplinary collaborations across the institute together with good communication skills are required.

Interested candidates should submit their Curriculum Vitae (including complete contact information for two references) and a one-page statement of their research objectives through the institute’s website (<>https://jobs.materials.imdea.org ). Selected candidates will be offered a five-years contract (for tenure-track appointments) with competitive salary and a generous startup package.
