As a flagship research center in nanoscience and nanotechnology, our mission is to open and explore new frontiers of knowledge at the nanoscale, and bring value to society in the form of new understanding, capabilities and innovation, while inspiring and providing broad training to the next generations of researchers.

Our research lines focus on the newly-discovered physical and chemical properties that arise from the behaviour of matter at the nanoscale. ICN2 has been awarded with the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence distinction for three consecutive periods (2014-2018 and 2018-2022 and 2023-2026). ICN2 comprises 19 Research Groups, 7 Technical Development and Support Units and Facilities, and 2 Research Platforms, covering different areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Job Title: Scientific Communicator

Department: Marketing, Communication & Fundraising

Main Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Implementing strategies to disseminate scientific results to the wider public using various communication channels.
  • Engage with educational institutions and the public to promote science awareness.
  • Organize and contribute to science communication events that resonate with the educational sector and the broader community.
  • Coordinate with the institute's research departments to accurately translate and communicate complex scientific concepts and breakthroughs.
  • Creating and monitoring educational content about scientific discoveries.
  • Translate complex scientific concepts into understandable and engaging language.
  • Engage with media outlets to maintain a strong presence in press communications.
  • Work closely with the head of Marketing, Communication & Fundraising to align scientific communication strategies and actions with the department goals.

Requirements:

We are looking for an articulate Scientific Communicator who can transform ICN2's advanced research into engaging narratives for the public. With a PhD in science and experience in science communication, you could be the ideal candidate to help us make science accessible to all.

  • Education: PhD in a scientific field with a Master's in Science Communication or Journalism preferred
  • Knowledge and Professional Experience:

3+ years of experience in scientific communication within a research or academic environment.

Proven ability in scientific writing and public engagement.

Excellent communication skills in English, Catalan, and Spanish.

Influential leadership capabilities to direct outreach projects.

Strong organizational and planning skills to manage multiple projects.

Creativity and innovation to develop new ways of communicating science to increase public impact.

Proficiency in digital tools and communication platforms.

Ability to translate complex scientific topics into accessible language for the general public.

Creativity to develop engaging and relevant content.

Summary of conditions:

  • Full time work (37,5h/week)
  • Contract Length: Permanent
  • Location: Bellaterra (Barcelona)
  • Salary will depend on qualifications and demonstrated experience.
