Offer Description

The Science Outreach and Education Officer will be responsible for raising public awareness of chemical research as key factor in the progress of a sustainable society. S/he will particularly establish and maintain a close relationship with the educational community and institutions ICIQ collaborates with. The person will possess excellent communication skills, capable of working with people of all ages, and ability to create engagement content.

S/he will report to the Outreach Manager and will work in close collaboration with ICIQ group leaders and researchers.  

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Support in designing and implementing ICIQ’s strategy for outreach and education programs and activities, in particular, those directly related to the ICIQ Severo Ochoa Strategic Plan 2020-2024 (CEX2019-000925-S, MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, 2020-2024).
  • Coordinate and carry out ICIQ’s current activities (courses, workshops, science fairs, online resources). This involves working 13 Saturday per year.
  • Outreach laboratory management (safety, logistics, maintenance).
  • Elaborate proposals for new outreach and education activities and foster collaborations with other institutions promoting science education.
  • Participate in writing science outreach projects to obtain funding from private and public institutions.
  • Create educational content and materials.
  • Contribute to other communication initiatives within the Communications Unit.

    Skills/Qualifications

    Candidate’s Profile:

    • Finished degree in Chemistry is required (please note that having a PhD might be an advantage).
    • Training in scientific communication and proven experience in science outreach and education.
    • Good English level (C1), Catalan (preferably C1) and Spanish.
    • Ability to interact with faculty, students, co-workers and the general public in a professional manner.
