Offer Description

IRTA is currently seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Researcher with a PhD related to Veterinary Science or related Animal Sciences to join the Animal Welfare Program. We invite applications from ambitious candidates with relevant research experience in Poultry Welfare on farm, transport, and at slaughter who also are passionate to conduct research and innovation activities.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the High scientific and technological impact projects within the field of the welfare of turkey and other poultry species both on farm, transport and at slaughter.
- Support the research in rabbit and fish welfare both on-farm, transport, and at the slaughter.
- Lead, plan and/or participate in the design and planning of future research activities on poultry welfare, including grant applications to both national and international competitive research calls.
- Interact with farmers and poultry associations.
- Write reports and scientific articles on progress of the designated projects.
- Supervise the PhD candidates and technical personnel that will support the research projects.
- Contribute in the positioning of the Animal Welfare Program as group of excellence through regular peer-reviewed publications, contributions at national and international congresses.
- Strengthen the research collaboration between IRTA and other national and international research groups in the framework of animal welfare.
- Provide technical support in animal welfare of poultry to regional, national and EU administrations as requested.
- Actively disseminate research findings through appropriate forum and to ensure maximum impact.

Skills/Qualifications

Required qualifications and experience
- Ph.D. in Veterinary Science or related Animal Sciences.
- Proven experience in research on Poultry Welfare.
- Driving licence type B and availability for travelling.
- Strong organizational capability and ability to learn and successfully work within multidisciplinary teams.
- Teamwork skills and ability to stablish and build relationships that will allow pursuing the objectives of the R&D activities.
- Ability to establish strategic alliances with other R&D national and international teams as well as the productive sector.

Desirable requirements
- Expertise in rabbit and fish welfare.
- Proven experience in public and private funding.
- Experience in international Research Projects.
- Experience in directing and supervising graduate students and young researchers.
- Proven experience in state-of-the-art of Poultry Welfare.
- Experience in transferring results of research to the livestock sector.
- Networking with national and international research groups, competent authorities, associations, and producers.
