Job title: Automatic Academic Writing Assessment

Research line / Scientific-technical services: Applied Linguistics

The Universidade da Coruña offers a research contract in the area of Applied Linguistics. The selected person will have the opportunity to provide support in research tasks related to academic corpora and writing support tools, as well as evaluation rubrics.

Funding

This contract is part of project EvAA (PID2022-142843NB-I00), funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by FEDER, EU.

Tasks to be performed: the person recruited will be responsible for:

1) Revision of the data included in the lexical database and in the corpus in HARTA

2) Revision of the academic corpus of novice writers

3) Review of different language proficiency tests to assess the criteria for correctness of written text

4) Review of different automatic writing tools such as Grammarly or AI-based systems such as ChatGPT.

Duration of the contract: The estimated time to develop this work is 24 months on a part-time basis, the following stages can be considered:

● Familiarisation with the previous work of the research group.

● Study of existing publications and tools in the proposed field and identification of the most promising fields of application and of the tools and techniques applicable to them, both proprietary and third-party.

• Analysis of the results obtained.

Eligibility criteria

CRITERIA AND ASSESSMENT OF MERITS

A. High school transcript with the EBAU: maximum 3 points. Transcript FP: maximum 1 point. It will be assessed on a linear scale from 0.2 points for a transcript with a mark less than or equal to 7 points, up to a maximum of 2 points for those transcripts above 13 points.

B. Academic record of university credits passed: maximum 3 points. Records in Spanish and English degrees or other degrees with equivalent competences will be valued. In order to score this section, at least 70% of the credits of the degree must have been completed at the time of the closing date of the call for applications. If this criterion is met, it will be assessed on a linear scale from 0.2 points for a mark of 5 to a maximum of 3 points for a mark of 10.

C. Excellence awards: maximum 1 point. Up to a maximum of 0.5 points for high school excellence awards and awards for the best annual academic record in the degree. Up to 0.25 points for other official recognition in the field of the tasks to be performed during the contract.

D. Experience in collaboration in research projects directly related to the tasks of the project: maximum 1 point. Up to 0.25 points will be awarded for each 2 months of internships or formative activities in research groups.

E. Technical interview to determine the ability to solve problems such as those to be carried out during the project: maximum 1 point.
