Efficiency in Buildings

Thermal Energy and Building Performance Group

The applicant will work as a research / project engineer in projects related to energy efficiency in buildings and communities, DER (Distributed Energy Resources) integration and energy management systems in buildings. He/she will report to the lead-Researcher of Building Performance research line in close collaboration with her.

Description

The research will be embedded in the Thermal Energy and Building Performance Group which main research subject is the Integrated and Systemic approach for Zero Energy Communities, Buildings and Industries. The group’s special focus is on the Mediterranean and other warm weather regions. The vision is to build an applied research group that contributes to accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) through energy efficiency measures, production of clean energy, and integration of distributed renewable energy sources (RES).

The candidate will participate supporting the lead researcher in the Efficient Buildings project as main activity. The Horizontal Project Efficient Buildings, led by the Euromed Cities Network, will anchor a MED community around energy issues that public organisations face, as a hub for Energy Efficiency (EE) innovative and shared solutions, in order to promote third parties projects’ results and increase their impact on public policies. By establishing a joint transnational framework around energy efficiency in public buildings to propose solutions to energy issues faced by public organizations in the MED area, the Efficient Buildings community will contribute to increase the capacity of owners and managers of public buildings to design and implement better energy efficiency practices. On the other hand, the Efficient Buildings Community will promote its results at national and EU levels to influence policies and call for new national and European regulatory framework that take into account MED specificities and the innovative solutions proposed by the community Activities where he/she will be involved are networking, dissemination and training activities with international partners, analysis of technical results, reporting and communication of results, as well of quality assurance.

Requirements

We are looking for excellent and highly motivated candidates with at least MSc degree and background related with energy in buildings, urban planning and/or Geoinformation. Knowledge of TRNSYS, Python, GIS-tools or other dynamic building simulation / computational tools is highly valuable. Knowledge of HVAC systems is desirable.

We are looking for a methodical, excellent team-player and results-oriented candidate with good communication and management skills. Mastery of English on all levels will be essential.
