Our institute
IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV). The research focuses of IDIBELL are cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine. Research, innovation and society are the pivots on which researchers work every day in order to improve the quality of life of citizens.
IDIBELL is located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, south of Barcelona. It is a member of the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Barcelona (HUBc) and Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA). In 2009, it became one of the first five Spanish research centers accredited as a health research institute by the Health Institute Carlos III. In 2015, the European Commission recognized IDIBELL with the ‘HR Excellence in Research’ award, which identifies IDIBELL as a provider and supporter of a stimulating research work environment.
About the Research Group
The Epidemiology of bacterial infections Research Group is focused in various clinical and microbiological research lines, including multiple-antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections, which are a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Controlling epidemic outbreaks caused by multi-resistant bacteria requires an understanding of risk factors and clinical characteristics in hospital-acquired infections, as well as genotypes, virulence factors, and mechanisms of antibiotic resistance of bacterial pathogens.
About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic person motivated to enroll in the predoctoral program of School of Medicine at Universitat de Barcelona. The selected PhD student will focus her or his research on the molecular epidiomology of Streptococcus pneumoniae, with an emphasis on antibiotic resistance and vaccine strategies. Candaite should demonstrated an interest about bioinformatic analysis since the project will be based on whole genome sequencing analysis and its relationship with the invasiveness and disease with especial attention to that cuased by serotype 3.
Job requirements
Professional experience
- Stage or practicum in a Clinical Microbiology Laboratory.
Education and training
- Pharmacist Degree (Minimum final mark ≥ 4/10)
- Master Degree in Advanced Microbiology
- Advance level in English (C1)
Technical skills
- Bacterial typing by PFGE.
- Antimicrobial susceptibility testing
Languages
- Good command of the English language
We will value, but not required
- Previous work in Streptococcus pneumoniae.
- Other laboratory technics non-related with microbiology.

Selection process
