Offer Description
The Sustainable computer aided process engineering (SUSCAPE) research group at the University Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona, Spain) is looking for an early-stage researcher to develop his/her PhD thesis (4-year contract).
This PhD project investigates the optimal integration of renewable energy, particularly photovoltaics (PV), with various energy storage solutions for energy communities. It will employ a multi-scale approach, analysing the impact on community, regional and national energy systems.
The research will utilize mathematical programming techniques to model the complex interactions between PV generation, diverse storage options (thermal and electrical energy), and demand scenarios. Software like Python and TRNSYS will be instrumental for building these models and performing simulations and optimizations.
A key aspect will be evaluating the integration of different storage technologies. The research will explore how combining short, medium, and long-term storage can optimize energy use within communities and at regional level, considering factors like renewable energy intermittency, peak demand management, cost-effectiveness and environmental impact.
