JOB POSITION: PRE-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER (I-PI 22-24)

ANNOUNCEMENt of the University of Alicante to call for applications to cover a temporary contractual pre-doctoral research position to collaborate with the project "Doped carbon-based materials for biogas purification and separation and CO2 valorisation" of the University Institute for Materials.  Reference: I-PI 22-24

In accordance with the Regulations governing calls for applications of research staff to cover contractual
research positions and the selection procedures, approved by the Governing Council of 29 June 2021 (BOUA of 30 June 2021) and with instructions of the University of Alicante Offices of the Registrar and the Comptroller, which establish the mandatory use of electronic means for the submission of applications, documentation, payment of fees, communications, notifications and all other procedures of the selection procedures for the temporary contractual administrative and services staff and research staff as well as other generally applicable regulations, the University of Alicante announces a call for applications with the following terms and conditions:

First. Number of vacancies and features of the job position

1.1. Number of vacancies: one.

1.2. Job position: Pre-doctoral Researcher.

1.3. Working hours: 37.5 hours a week in morning/afternoon sessions.

1.4. Remuneration: €1,321.43 gross/monthly (plus extra payments in accordance with current regulations).

1.5. Estimated duration of the contract: From the contract signing until 31 August 2027.

In any case, the duration of the contract will depend on the duration of the project and its budgetary availability.

In accordance with the provisions of the agreement of the Governing Council of 27 January 2022, which approves the 4th University of Alicante Equal Opportunities Plan for Women and Men, it is hereby stated that there is no under-representation of either gender in the category of Pre-doctoral Researcher

Second. Purpose

Collaborate in the research project “Doped carbon-based materials for biogas purification and separation and CO2 valorisation (PID2022-142960OB-C21)” through doctoral training in the Materials Science area, with the aim of pursuing a doctoral thesis, performing the following tasks:

• Synthesis and textural and chemical characterisation of doped and co-doped nanoporous carbons.
• Conduct of experiments to determine the behaviour of the carbons in the adsorption processes proposed in the project.
• Analysis and first discussion of the experimental results; the discussion will be further developed with the assistance of the research group’s senior researchers.
• Writing of scientific articles for publication in high-impact journals and presentation of results at scientific meetings and conferences.
• Any other task related to this job position as may arise from the implementation of the project.

Third. Job profile

Preference will be given to those candidates with:

3.1. Proven experience and training related to the tasks mentioned above and to:

• Electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques.
• Synthesis and characterisation of carbon materials.
• Adsorption processes.
• Characterisation of porous materials.

3.2. English language.

3.3. Qualification: Official Master’s Degree in Chemistry, in Chemical Engineering, in Materials Science or any other Master’s degree with equivalent content.

Fourth. Requirements for applicants

Compliance with the requirements listed below must always refer to the date of expiry

of the deadline for the submission of applications, and must be maintained until the

date of entering into the contract. Applicants must:

4.1. Hold or be in the process of obtaining an undergraduate degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering plus an official Master’s degree in Chemistry, in Chemical Engineering, in Materials Science or any other with equivalent content.

4.2. Meet the academic requirements necessary for admission to a doctoral programme offered or co-supervised by the University of Alicante. The document accrediting admission to such a doctoral programme must be submitted when entering into the contract.

4.3. Not be holders of a PhD, whether from a Spanish or foreign university.

4.4 Be a Spanish national or be in one of the situations listed in article 57 of Royal Legislative Decree 5/2015, of 30 October, which approves the revised text of the Act on the Basic Statute of Public Employees (BOE of 31 October). In the case established in point 4 of this article, when entering into the employment contract, the successful applicant must be a legal resident in Spain.

4.5 Be at least 16 years of age and not exceed the maximum compulsory retirement age.

4.6 Possess the physical and mental capacities and aptitudes that are necessary for the performance of the corresponding functions or tasks, for which, prior to the signing of the contract, a medical certificate must be provided certifying the possession of said capacities and aptitudes. For these purposes, medical examinations may be carried out through the medical assistance provided by the University of Alicante Occupational Health Service.

4.7 Must not have been dismissed by disciplinary proceedings from the service of any of the Public Administrations or of the constitutional or statutory bodies of the Spanish Autonomous Regions, nor have been totally or specially disqualified for public employment by a court decision, for access to the civil service, or to perform duties similar to those performed by non-tenured staff in public administrations, in which they had been dismissed or disqualified. If you are a national of another State, you must not be in a situation of disqualification or equivalent, nor have been subjected to a disciplinary or equivalent sanction that prevents, under the same terms, access to public employment in your State.
