The Department of Humanities of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, within the framework of the Project 2023-T1/PH-HUM-29289 of the César Nombela Talent Attraction Programme, offers a pre-doctoral position for the completion of a PhD thesis in the field of archaeology and ancient numismatics. 

Project 2023-T1/PH-HUM-29289 is directed by Noé Conejo (Ph.Dr.) and aims to study the uses and circulation of coins in Roman and early medieval Carpetania (I B.C. - VIII A.D.).

The candidate will carry out a doctoral thesis in numismatics and archaeology analysing the different economic and social dynamics of the territory through the study of coins found in archaeological contexts in different parts of central Spain.

El Departamento de Humanidades de la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, en el marco del Proyecto 2023-T1/PH-HUM-29289 del Programa de Atracción de Talento César Nombela, ofrece una plaza predoctoral para la realización de una tesis doctoral en el Campo de la arqueología y la numismática antigua.

El proyecto 2023-T1/PH-HUM-29289 está dirigido por Noé Conejo (Ph.Dr.) y tiene como objetivo estudiar los usos y circulación de las monedas en la Carpetania durante la época romana y altomedieval (I a.C. - VIII d.C.).

El candidato realizará una tesis doctoral en numismática y arqueología analizando las diferentes dinámicas económicas y sociales del territorio a través del estudio de monedas encontradas en contextos arqueológicos en diferentes puntos del centro de la península Ibérica.

Skills/Qualifications

-Have been admitted to the Humanities doctoral program: Studies of Antiquity and the Classical Legacy. Open online admission: https://www.uc3m.es/doctorado/admision/admision-programas-doctorado

-Knowledge of ancient and medieval numismatics in order to study coins found in archaeological contexts independently. 

-Use of databases applied to archaeology and numismatics (FileMaker, among others).

-Use of GIS programs applied to archaeological research.

-Conocimientos de numismática antigua y medieval para el estudio autónomo de monedas halladas en contextos arqueológicos. 

-Uso de bases de datos aplicadas a la arqueología y numismática (FileMaker, entre otras).

-Uso de programas de SIG aplicados a investigación arqueológica. 

Specific Requirements

Participation in archaeological and numismatic research projects, as well as cataloguing work in museums and other institutions and publications will be considered.
