Offer Description

In the framework of the European INSPIRE (Innovative Solutions for Plastic Free European Rivers)
project, we are looking of a post-doctoral researcher to contribute to the modelling and forecasting of litter
fate through the following tasks:
- Develop a database on quantities and transport of micro-, meso- and macroplastics in rivers and lakes,
and their contribution to the marine environment.
- Implement a modelling framework to assess plastic pollution in aquatic ecosystems, from rivers, lakes,
and estuaries to the marine environment.
- Leadership in data analyses and writing of scientific publications.
- Manage project tasks by planning, organizing, and coordinating with team members.
- Participate in project meetings and follow-up on milestones and deliverables.
- Communicate research findings effectively to academic and broader audiences.
- Collaborate with diverse partners and work in multidisciplinary topics.

 

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CONTRACT:
Purpose: Contract for scientific-technical activities (Article 23 bis Law 14/2011, of 1 June, on Science,
Technology, and Innovation).
Duration: Indefinite.
Working day: Full time.
Estimated duration of funding: 18 months.
Termination of the contract: as established in section 4 of article 23 bis of Law 14/2011 and in accordance
with articles 49, 51 and 52.e) of RDL 2/2015 of 23 October, which approves the revised text of the
Workers' Statute.
Place of work: Department of Biology. Faculty of Marine and Environmental Sciences. Puerto Real
Campus, Puerto Real (Cádiz), Spain.
Gross monthly remuneration: 2.493,35 euros per month. The formalisation of the contract will be
conditional upon obtaining the funding for the same, and its duration may not exceed that authorised for
the execution of the project.
In accordance with the public regulations for the hiring of non-permanent personnel, to carry out scientific
and technical research tasks assigned to contracts with abroad and lines and projects of research or
scientific-technical services of the The University of Cádiz, regardless of the previous remunerations, it is
established a variable supplement for meeting objectives for a total amount of 4,000 euros.
Contracts that are not linked to external funding or funding from calls for public aid in competitive
competition in their entirety, their formalisation shall be subject to the prior authorisation indicated in
article 23 bis of Law 14/2011, of 1 June, on Science, Technology and Innovation).

Skills/Qualifications

Preferred background: PhD degree in marine or freshwater or hydrology related sciences, with a competitive academic CV.

- Management of environmental databases.
- Use of programming languages (e.g., Python, Matlab and/or R).
- Hydrological and/or hydraulic modelling, including rivers and/or estuaries.
- Statistical analysis.
- Analysis of environmental time series data.
- Geographic Information Systems (e.g., ArcGIS or QGIS).
- Participation in multidisciplinary research projects related to aquatic environments (e.g., river, lake,
estuary, and marine systems)
- Familiarity with relevant scientific literature, methodologies and analysis techniques related to plastic
pollution.
- Leadership in scientific publications.
- Scientific communications at international events.

Others:
- Ability to manage research projects including planning, organizing, and executing tasks, managing
deadlines, and coordinating with team members to ensure project success.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in English, including writing reports, research
papers, and other communication materials.
