Postdoctoral Researcher on quantum transduction in van der Waals heterostructures

Updated: over 1 year ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 30 Nov 2022

Description of Group/Project:

The groups of Sergio O. Valenzuela and Klaas-Jan Tielrooij at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) are offering a joint postdoctoral position in the field of quantum transduction, within the newly created ICN2 Quantum Synergy Laboratory* (QSL).

The ICN2 research lines focus on the newly-discovered physical and chemical properties that arise from the behavior of matter at the nanoscale. Following the interest of several ICN2 groups working on quantum materials, the Joint Quantum Synergy Laboratory (QSL) is being set-up with the goal of promoting collaborative projects, which take advantage of the groups’ highly complementary expertise. Advanced equipment will be available, such as cryostats with optical and electrical access in combination with (high) magnetic fields.

Main Tasks and responsibilities:

The project focuses on developing quantum devices that harness the potential of topological and quantum materials, to enable novel processes for the transduction and transfer of information. The devices will combine the use of light- and spin-degrees of freedom. More specifically, the postdoctoral fellow will explore the generation of excitons in transition metal dichalcogenides in connection to the transfer and monitoring of spin information in graphene.

S/he will design and prepare the devices using ICN2 nanofabrication facilities and will carry out optical and transport measurements at cryogenic temperatures, while participating in a established collaboration with the ICN2 theory group of Stephan Roche.
