We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed postdoctoral researcher, expert in dissolved organic matter characterization with high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). The researcher will play a key role in contributing to the EU research project, intoDBP (https://intodbp.eu/ ), where Maria José Farré serves as the coordinator and the researcher´s supervisor.

The role of the postdoctoral researcher in this project is both specialized and multifaceted, encompassing a range of responsibilities that contribute significantly to advancing the understanding of dissolved organic matter. The primary focus revolves around employing HRMS for in-depth analysis, with a particular emphasis on comparing findings with traditional methodologies like UV-VIS (Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy) and fluorescence. The second objective is correlate DOM fingerprints with DBP formation. This aspect of the research is essential, as it extends the investigation beyond the identification of organic matter to understanding potential consequences in water treatment processes. The insights gained from DBP analysis contribute to the broader context of water quality management and public health. The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate closely with a highly trained technician, forming a dynamic partnership to execute sampling campaigns and analytical work.

intoDBP is an EU-funded project that will develop, test, scale-up, validate, and benchmark innovative tools and strategies to protect catchments and minimize human exposure to disinfection by-products (DBP) under current and future climates. The project will develop its cross-cutting solutions on 4 complementary case studies combining rural and dense urban areas, from 3 European countries where DBPs are a scientific, technological, and political challenge. The project includes 16 partners from Spain, Ireland, Cyprus, Italy, Belgium, Israel, Austria, US and Australia. The project consortium includes research organizations, large enterprise, medium and small enterprises, public bodies and non-profit organizations.

Engaging in a Horizon Europe project through the coordinating institution presents an exceptional prospect to elevate a career trajectory significantly.
