Offer Description

The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.

In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research ' Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code).

The role

The position is expected to be filled by a PhD-level candidate with experience in bioimage analysis and advanced fluorescence microscopy. The candidate will focus on the application of live cell fluoresce microscopy to study single cell and multicellular dynamics and the analysis of spatio-temporal features regulating morphodynamics and pattern formation.

The candidate should be enthusiastic to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment. This work will be performed within the European Synergy Grant ‘Breakdance’ that involves 4 European research partners in Spain and France.

About the lab

The Ruprecht lab studies fundamental mechanisms regulating cellular morphodynamics, tissue plasticity and multicellular self-organization during development and disease conditions. The team employs a cross-disciplinary approach that combines quantitative fluorescence microscopy, biophysical methods, synthetic biology approaches and in vivo model systems. Our work has recently identified that nuclear mechanosensing controls cellular mechano-plasticity (Venturini et al. Science 2020) and has elucidated mechanisms of developmental robustness via cellular error correction in the early embryo (Hoijman et al. Nature 2020). Our ultimate goal is to develop a mechanistic understanding how tissue form and function is robustly built and maintained by dynamic processes at the single cell level and of alterations of cell states in disease and ageing.

The research group is part of the Quantitative Cell Biology Program and Systems and Synthetic Biology Program at the CRG.
