Offer Description

We are offering a 1 year Postdoctoral Research contract (with possibility to renovate until December 2026) to work in a multidisciplinary research project that combines photonics, neuroscience, molecular biology, in vitro and in vivo calcium imaging and MRI.  The researcher will be involved in the GlioLighT project: Next Generation Glioma Treatments using Direct Light Therapy, that is part of a international consortium funded by the Horizon-EIC-2023 PathfinderOpen. The hosting group is led by Dr. Mercè Masana, an Associate Professor, head of the research group “Modulation of neuronal circuitry in brain disorders” (Biomedical Sciences Department, Institute of Neuroscience, University of Barcelona, Spain).

The contracted person will be involved in testing how photodynamic therapy and direct light treatment is effective in the treatment of glioma with minimal effects in healthy neural cells and unravel the underlying mechanisms involved using healthy and animal models of glioma.

Skills/Qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a PhD in Neuroscience, Biomedicine or related subjects and with high interest and experience using mouse models, primary neuronal/glioma cell lines cultures, biochemical analysis including immunohistochemistry and western blot and MRI. 1. The candidate should have: (i) the certificate to work with Laboratory Animals; (ii) experience using in vitro cell cultures (iii) experience in the design and conduct of experimental research in rodents, involving  cells and/or AAV administration by brain stereotaxic surgeries and behavior analysis in rodents; (iv) experience in brain dissection, histology and molecular biology, including PCR, immunofluorescence etc (v) be eager to perform calcium recordings with fiber photometry in vivo and MRI (vi) be eager to collaborate with photonics and bioengineering international researchers. (vii) Computer skills, MATLAB or similar, and knowledge of statistic analysis. (viii) Communication skills, ability to work in a team and good level of English is also required. Part of the work will involve support in administrative tasks related to the project, including reports.2. Knowledge and skills also desired include: (i) Multi-electrode arrays +optogenetics; ii) viral vectors generation. (iii) Brain circuit modulating techniques: DREADDS, optogenetics, pharmacology.

Selection process

The selection process is based on two steps:

1-Evaluation of the documents provided by the Applicant

2-Interview of selected candidates having the eligibility requisites (evaluated through the first step).


Additional comments

Duration of the contract of employment:12 months, renewable up to 31/12/2026.

The candidate proposed for hiring must accept the job offer within 5 working days from the date of notification of the selection.
