Offer Description

The Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the University of Barcelona (ICCUB) invites applications for a postdoctoral position to work with Prof. Chervin Laporte. The position is funded by the ERC Starting Grant "VIA LACTEA" which aims to understand the formation and evolution of the Milky Way by means of numerical simulations. Applicants with strong expertise/interests numerical simulations of astrophysical systems, galaxy formation, galactic dynamics, Galacti-Archaeology/near-field cosmology, are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience with programming (C/C++) and parallel programming will be an advantage as well as prior experience with numerical simulations of galaxy formation (idealised or cosmological).

Our group is part of the WEAVE and SDSS-V surveys. The ICCUB offers a stimulating environment with scientific staff working on a variety of topics from cosmology, extragalactic and Galactic astronomy to star formation and gravitational wave detection. The term of employment is for 3 years (subject to performance and availability of funds). The position is funded by an ERC starting grant and comes with special dedicated access to our in-house HPC cluster and generous travel support. Candidates should have completed their PhD within the last six years and be in possession of their PhD degree by the starting date of employment.
