Postdoctoral position - Image processing for cochlear surgery planning and simulation

Updated: over 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 30 Sep 2021

Cochlear implantation (CI) is a surgical procedure that, by means of an implantable device, aims to overcome hearing loss by directly stimulating the auditory nerves. Although it is a mature and safe procedure, clinical outcomes vary significantly due to a number of factors, such as anatomical and physiological variability across the population, nerve degeneration, and different implantation strategies. Computer modelling and simulation hold the promise for better, more predictive cochlear implantation. Our group has been active in this line of work for many years, and the project builds on previous related research efforts, such as the EU project HEAR-EU and the Producte project CIplanner. The aim of the project is to develop image processing and computer modelling and simulation tools for cochlear and vestibular implantation, and it is part of a broader research project in collaboration with the Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Universidad de Navarra.
