Offer Description

The goal of the project FLURB is to evaluate the contribution of urban ponds to GHG fluxes in cities. Therefore, we will (i) determine the magnitude and spatiotemporal variability of CO2, CH4, and N2O fluxes between urban ponds and the atmosphere, (ii) establish how naturalization and other factors drive these GHG fluxes, (iii) quantify the effects of aquatic vegetation on GHG fluxes, and (iv) integrate this information to provide an initial estimate of the annual GHG fluxes in the urban ponds of Barcelona, a city that has strongly opted for naturalization strategies in the last years. By combining the knowledge gained for each of these objectives, we will be able to better understand the role of non-naturalized and naturalized urban ponds in the GHG footprint of cities and guide management strategies towards the best use of blue-green infrastructures in urban areas.

The person holding the offered position will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Design and monitoring of samplings and experiments.
  • Fieldwork for sample collection.
  • Analysis of the collected samples
  • Statistical treatment of the data.
  • Writing reports and manuscripts for publication
