OFFER DESCRIPTION

The Sociological Research Centre on Work and Everyday Life (QUIT) seek to recruit a post-doctoral researcher for the project MAINSOC – Managing inflation crisis through Social Dialogue (Grant Agreement 101126451 — MAINSOC — SOC) funded by the DG for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, European Commission).

This is a part-time temporary position, with a duration of 21 months.

Description of the research project

The objective of the MAINSOC project is twofold. First, to analyse the impact of the inflation crisis on real wage dynamics and wage differentials across sectors and groups of workers, paying attention to the asymmetric impact on those at the bottom of the wage scale and the role of industrial relations institutions to explain differences across countries. Second, to analyse the role of government policies, social partners’ involvement, and industrial relations institutions in managing the inflation crisis, adapting to a new scenario, and guaranteeing inclusive growth in six EU countries (DE, DK, ES, IT, HU, PL).

JOB DESCRIPTION

The candidate will fully join the MAINSOC research team and will actively contribute to the development of all the main project stages conducting specifically the case of Hungary. So, the selected applicant will:

•        Assist the principal investigator and project team to conduct the funded research

•        Conduct literature and database searches and present the findings of literature

•        Provide a quantitative analysis of real wage dynamics in Hungary, before and during the inflation crisis;

•        Analyse different trajectories of real wages and inflation and patterns of change in Hungary;

•        Analyse those sectors and groups of workers more negatively affected by the inflation crisis;

•        Analyse the relationship between institutional variables related to the wage-setting system and real wage dynamics and distributional impact of the crisis;

•        Analyse the evolution of indexation mechanisms in public sector wages and the role of social dialogue and collective bargaining

•        Analyse indexation mechanisms in minimum wage-setting and the role of social partners in negotiating them

•        Employ qualitative research techniques and methods,

•        Carry out quantitative analysis

•        Develop papers aiming at publication

•        Interaction and participation with researchers

•        Dissemination activities to academic, policy and community audiences

SELECTION PROCESS

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

•        European citizenship (EU27*).

•        A master’s degree in Sociology, Political Sciences, Employment Relations (and directly related domains).

•        PhD in sociology or public policy.

JOB POSITION REQUIREMENTS

-Research experience in employment relations, including participation in international research projects and record of scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals.

-Advanced knowledge in standard statistical and data analysis software (e.g., Stata, SPSS, R, Atlas.ti, etc.)

- Previous experience in conducting interviews and other qualitative/quantitative research methods.

-Advanced knowledge of written and oral English (at least C1 level).
