Post Doc Position for a Materials Chemist job in Piezozymes Project - ERC Starting Grant -...

Updated: over 1 year ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 06 Jul 2022

The project PIEZOZYMES “Enzymatic Piezoelectric composites to regenerate redox-cofactors driven by mechanical sources”, is funded by the European Research Council (ERC-St). The project focuses on the development of efficient cofactor regeneration systems for novel green and sustainable biotechnological applications.

PIEZOZYMES’s main proposal integrates multidisciplinary cutting-edge research, combining the knowledge of different scientific fields (enzymatic electrocatalysis, piezoelectricity, molecular biology and materials chemistry) pursuing novel biotechnological tools aimed at the efficient regeneration of redox cofactors powered by mechanical sources. Such progress will bring several advantages over the current cofactor-regeneration systems, where the traditionally employed biochemical, electrochemical and photonic sources will be replaced by mechanical ones.

The project is to be carried out at the institute of synthetic chemistry and homogeneous catalysis (ISQCH) in Zaragoza, Spain. This institute is a mixed research center belonging to Zaragoza University (UNIZAR) and the Spanish Council for Research (CSIC), and it was created to address the new challenges in catalysis and synthetic chemistry. The center possesses excellent working conditions and is full-equipped with laboratories and access to a large variety of cutting-edge facilities and technological platforms.

Required Education Level: Candidates should have a PhD degree in Chemistry / Material Sciences/or Nanomaterials, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.

Required Skills/Qualifications: We are looking for a candidate with a solid background in the synthesis and characterization of piezoelectric materials, protein chemistry, chemical biology, and/or material sciences, or have equivalent experience. Experience in material characterization by AFM microscopy will be highly valued. The candidate is expected to have interest in multidisciplinary work, and the capacity to work in an international environment. Excellent interpersonal skills as well as written and oral communication skills in English are required.
