JOB POSITION: PhD Senior Researcher (I-PI 18-24)

ANNOUNCEMENT of the Universidad of Alicante to call for applications to cover an open-ended contractual PhD senior research position to collaborate with the funded line of research “Radar remote sensing”. Reference: I-PI 18-24

In accordance with the Regulations governing calls for applications of research staff to cover contractual research positions and the selection procedures, approved by the Governing Council of 29 June 2021 (BOUA of 30 June 2021) and with instructions of the University of Alicante Offices of the Registrar and the Comptroller, which establish the mandatory use of electronic means for the submission of applications, documentation, payment of fees, communications, notifications and all other procedures of the selection procedures for the temporary contractual administrative and services staff and research staff as well as other generally applicable regulations, the University of Alicante announces a call for applications with the following terms and conditions:

First Number of vacancies and features of the job position:

1.1. Number of vacancies: one.

1.2. Job position: PhD Senior Researcher.

1.3. Funded line of research: “Radar remote sensing”

1.4. Working hours: 37.5 hours a week in morning/afterboon sessions.

1.5. Remuneration: €2,500 gross/monthly (plus extra payments in accordance with current regulations).
In accordance with the provisions of the agreement of the Governing Council of 27 January 2022, which approves the 4th University of Alicante Plan for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men, it is hereby stated that there is no under-representation of either gender in the category of PhD Senior Researcher.

Second. First Project in which the applicant will collaborate:

2.1. Name of the project: “Diagnostic tool that integrates optical, infrared and SAR data – DINOSAR”.

At the end of this first project or its budgetary availability, the candidate awarded the position may join other projects belonging to the same line of research funded.

2.2. Reference: 101129646.

2.3. Funding agency: European Commission.

2.4. Dept./Institute: UA Institute for Computer Research.

2.5. Tasks to be carried out:

• Coordination of the activities to be developed in terms of interferometric processing routines for SAR image times series.
• Dissemination of project results.
• Any other task related to the job position that may arise from the implementation of the project.

Third. Applicant’s profile

Preference Will be given to:

3.1. Those applicants with proven experience and training related to the tasks mentioned above and to:

• Use of time series of backscatter and interferometric coherence products in crop classification.
• Development of spectral and interferometric phase filters for SAR imaging.
• Development of change detection algorithms for SAR images.
• Development of radargrammetry techniques with very high-resolution SAR images to generate control points and digital elevation models.

 3.2. English language.

 3.3. Qualification:

• Official Master's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, as well as any other official Master's degree with equivalent content.
• PhD programme in Computer Science or any other doctoral programme that may be considered equivalent.

Fourth. Requirements for applicants.

Compliance with the requirements listed below must always refer to the date of expiry of the deadline for the submission of applications, and must be maintained until the

date of entering into the contract.

4.1. Hold or be in the process of obtaining a PhD degree.

4.2. Hold or be in the process of obtaining an undergraduate degree in Telecommunications Engineering or any other undergraduate degree with equivalent content plus an official Master's degree.

4.3. Be a Spanish national or be in one of the situations listed in article 57 of Royal Legislative Decree 5/2015, of 30 October, which approves the revised text of the Act on the Basic Statute of Public Employees (BOE of 31 October). In the case established in point 4 of this article, when entering into the employment contract, the successful applicant must be a legal resident in Spain.

4.4. Be at least 16 years of age and not exceed the maximum compulsory retirement age.

4.5. Possess the physical and mental capacities and aptitudes that are necessary for the performance of the corresponding functions or tasks, for which, prior to the signing of the contract, a medical certificate must be provided certifying the possession of said capacities and aptitudes. For these purposes, medical examinations may be carried out through the medical assistance provided by the University of Alicante Occupational Health Service.

4.6.  Must not have been dismissed by disciplinary proceedings from the service of any of the Public Administrations or of the constitutional or statutory bodies of the Spanish Autonomous Regions, nor have been totally or specially disqualified for public employment by a court decision, for access to the civil service, or to perform duties similar to those performed by non-tenured staff in public administrations, in which they had been dismissed or disqualified. If you are a national of another State, you must not be in a situation of disqualification or equivalent, nor have been subjected to a disciplinary or equivalent sanction that prevents, under the same terms, access to public employment in your State.
