JOB POSITION: PHD JUNIOR RESEARCHER (I-PI 30-24)

 

University of Alicante call for applications to cover an open-ended contractual PhD junior research position to collaborate with the funded line of research “DFGM Molecular Microbial Ecology.”

First. Number of vacancies and features of the job vacancy

1.1. Number of job vacancies: one.

1.2. Job position: PhD Junior Researcher.

1.3. Funded line of research: “DFGM Molecular Microbial Ecology.”

1.4. Working hours: 37.5 hours/week in the morning/afternoon sessions.

1.5. Remuneration: € 2,105.07 gross/monthly (plus extra payments in accordance with current regulations).

In accordance with the provisions of the agreement of the Governing Council of 27 January 2022, which approves the University of Alicante 4th Plan for equal opportunities between women and men, it is hereby stated that there is no under-representation of either gender in the category of PhD Junior Researcher.

 

Second. First Project in which the applicant will collaborate:

2.1. Name of the project: “New strategies to study virus-host interactions from humans to the ecosystem: a “one-health” perspective (VIRHOS).”

At the end of this first project or its budgetary availability, the successful candidate may join other projects belonging to the same line of research funded.

2.5. Tasks to develop:

• Analysis of viral and cellular metagenomes of the samples analysed in the project and in silico search for host-virus pairs
• Collaboration in the tasks necessary for the experimental verification of the associations predicted by the bioinformatics search.
   

Third. Job profile.

Preference will be given to:

3.1. Those with experience and training related to the tasks to be carried out on section two of the terms agreed and to:

• Extraction of nucleic acids from environmental samples, culture of micro-organisms and their viruses,
• Use of bioinformatics tools:

• Sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis (Chromas, Bioedit, ClustalX, FinchTV,
• SEGMANII, Muscle, Gblocks, Mothur, Bellerophon, MrBayes, jmodeltest, Tracer, PhyML, FigTree, etc.).
• Metagenomic genomic analysis: FastQC and Printseq, Spades, (prodigal, bowtie, samtools, bedtools, diamond and Megan).
• Networks: Cytoscape.
• Databases: MetaNetX, BioCyc, Bigg, seed, nr-ncbi, KEGG, EC, COG, PFAM.
• Statistical tools for microbial ecology.

Specific software for genome and viral metagenome analysis (Virclust, Viridic, geNomad, VirSorter, etc.).

3.2. Qualification:

• Official undergraduate or Master’s degree in related to Biology.
• PhD programme in Biology (Microbiology or related area) or any other equivalent programme.

 

Fourth. Requirements for applicants.

Compliance with the requirements listed below must always refer to the date of expiry of the

deadline for the submission of applications and must be maintained until the date of entering

into the contract

4.1. Hold or be in the process of obtaining a PhD certificate.

4.2.  Be a Spanish national or be in one of the situations listed in article 57 of Royal Legislative Decree 5/2015, of 30 October, which approves the revised text of the Act on the Basic Statute of Public Employees (BOE of 31 October). In the case established in point 4 of this article, when entering into the employment contract, the successful applicant must be a legal resident in Spain.

4.3.  Be at least 16 years of age and not exceed the maximum compulsory retirement age.

4.4. Possess the physical and mental capacities and aptitudes that are necessary for the performance of the corresponding functions or tasks, for which, prior to the signing of the contract, a medical certificate must be provided certifying the possession of said capacities and aptitudes. For these purposes, medical examinations may be carried out through the medical assistance provided by the University of Alicante Occupational Health Service.

4.5. Must not have been dismissed by disciplinary proceedings from the service of any of the Public Administrations or of the constitutional or statutory bodies of the Spanish Autonomous Regions, nor have been totally or specially disqualified for public employment by a court decision, for access to the civil service, or to perform duties similar to those performed by non-tenured staff in public administrations, in which they had been dismissed or disqualified. If you are a national of another State, you must not be in a situation of disqualification or equivalent, nor have been subjected to a disciplinary or equivalent sanction that prevents, under the same terms, access to public employment in your State.
