The role

The desired candidate will be actively involved in the H2020 project entitled “Translational Platform for MSA: Elucidation of Disease-mechanisms and Drug discovery: TraP-MEDD” as part of an European consortium. For this project, the candidate will generate and characterize human iPS cells from MSA patient samples, will perform differentiation to neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes that will be treated with distinct a-syn fibrillar strains. Further to that, a-syn fibrillar strain’s uptake, seeding, and accumulation propensities will be assessed in collaboration with international labs experts in the subject. The project will be done in close collaboration with experts in MSA disease and models from Fundacio Clinic per a la Recerca Biomedica (FCRB, Barcelona), Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (NYC, USA), CEA (France) and KU Leuven (Belgium). 

The candidate will form part of the Tissue Engineering team and will help in the achievement of specific goals. Applicants should be highly motivated, resolutive, methodological with accurate work habits and clear team-building skills. The ideal candidate has a strong ability to multi-task and has a service-oriented mentality. The position involves working some weekends and holiday days during the year.

The unit

The Tissue Engineering Unit is a technology unit within the Core Technologies Program. The goal of the Tissue Engineering Unit is to provide CRG, PRBB and external researchers with the latest technologies used in the fields of stem cell biology, stem cell differentiation, organoid formation, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. The unit was established 5 years ago to help the research community in performing Stem Cell and Organoids projects and to perform technology development in the above fields.

Whom would we like to hire?

Professional experience

Must have

• You have 3 years’ experience in stem cell biology and ES/iPS cell differentiation systems
• You have 1 year experience in human iPS cell generation and characterization
• You have 3 years’ experience in hiPS cells neuronal/glial differentiation
• You have experience in organoids

Education and training

• You hold a Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field and working experience in Stem Cell Biology/Neurobiology field.
• If you hold a Master/PhD’s degree in Stem cell Biology/Neurobiology will be considered a plus

Languages

• You are proficient in English
• You have a good level of Spanish

Technical skills

• You have a strong Tissue Culture experience for human ES/iPS cells
• You have experience in human ES/iPS cell neuronal/glial differentiation
• You have experience in human iPS reprogramming and human iPS cells quality controls
• You have experience with Immunofluorescence, confocal and FACS analysis for cellular characterizations

Competences

• You have highly-developed organizational skills
• You are capable of working in a group
• You have a high level of work autonomy
• You are communicative
• You are service-oriented

The Offer – Working Conditions

• Contract duration: 1 year with possibility of extension.
• Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales.
