    Additional comments

Scientific activities will be carried out at the Centro de Investigación del Cáncer / Cancer Research Center (CIC) that is located in the city of Salamanca (Spain).

The CIC is one of the international-leading research centers in Spain in terms of scientific output, carrying out innovative biomedical research related to cancer and other high-incidence diseases at the basic, translational, and clinical level (www.cicancer.org/en ). It houses 27 research laboratories, ten technical units, and ≈220 research and administration staff. The CIC is located in a rather active biomedical campus that encompasses a University Hospital with an associated Health Research Institute, two additional USAL-ran Research Institutes (Neurosciences and Functional Genomics), all the Biomedical schools (Medicine, Pharmacology, Biology, Biotechnology), and an adjacent Scientific/Industrial Campus where ten start-up companies have been established. The CIC trains, in close association with the USAL, master, graduate, and post-doctoral students in average per year. Given its close connection with patient-associated initiatives, the CIC has been recognized as a Health Centre by the Castilla-León Health System (SACYL; Reg. #5-14-0001). With this accreditation, the CIC can carry out Hospital-like tasks (diagnostic, Hospital-associated clinical trials). Many of the CIC research groups have stable collaborations with biopharmaceutical companies.

In addition to standard administration, human resources and maintenance units, the CIC has a number of specialized technical facilities for Diagnostic Molecular Pathology, Genomics & Proteomics, Bioinformatics, Flow Cytometry, Advanced Microscopy, Structural Biology and Scientific Communication. It also has an adjacent Animal Experimentation and Transgenic Facility. All these facilities are fully certified by Bureau Veritas Bureau Veritas (ISO9001 and ISO 45001), which allow them to carry out fully licensed technical services. Unlike the case of most facilities in academic centers, the CIC technical units have been developed with the goal of providing service to both indoor and outdoor scientists, academic and healthcare institutions, and the biopharmaceutical industry. In addition, these units have as one of their goals to help disseminating new technologies, either by organizing courses or by participating in nationwide technological platforms (i.e., the Spanish Institute of Proteomics-ProteoRed initiative).
