Offer Description

The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.

In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research ' Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code).

The role

We are looking for a laboratory technician for the field of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). The Lab technician will work together with the Advanced Genomics Technologies team within the Genomics Unit to implement and develop new protocols and technologies strategically interesting for the CRG research community. Specific job duties will include NGS sample and library preparation, quality control, protocol implementation & troubleshooting, as well as diligent reporting. Extensive hands-on experience in NGS sample preparation and thorough knowledge of all steps involved in NGS data generation are therefore essential for the role. Additionally, any experience in the field of laboratory automation will be considered a plus.

About the lab

The scope of the Genomics Unit is to provide excellent, cutting-edge services in the field of next-generation sequencing (NGS). The unit is led by Dr. Berta Fusté and composed of 10 technicians highly experienced in NGS technology. Within the Genomics Unit, the Advanced Genomics Technologies team headed by Dr. Florian Köhler is dedicated to test, develop and implement new genomic applications that are of relevance to the CRG and its lines of research, thereby allowing the unit and its production team to offer cutting-edge NGS services to CRG researchers.

The Genomics Unit is equipped with a wide range of short-read sequencing instruments from Illumina (1 Novaseq6000, 1 Nextseq2000, 1 Nextseq500, 1 MiSeq, and 1 iSeq100), and also it has a long-read sequencing instrument from Oxford Nanopore Technologies (1 MinION). Furthermore, the unit is equipped with all the instrumentation necessary for DNA and RNA quality control as well as NGS library preparation, including 2 TECAN robots for automation of protocols.

The Genomics Unit is embedded in the CRG Core Technologies Programme that includes the technology units of proteomics, bioinformatics, protein technologies, tissue engineering, flow cytometry and advanced light microscopy. The programme is directed by Mònica Morales and all units collaborate strongly in the setup and implementation of transversal workflows and technologies across units.
