EOI Marie-Skłodowska-Curie Actions: Defects in Perovskite Solar Cells

The mission of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is to achieve the highest level of scientific and technological excellence in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Its research lines focus on the newly-discovered physical and chemical properties that arise from the behavior of matter at the nanoscale. ICN2 has been awarded with the Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence distinction for two consecutive periods (2014-2018 and 2018-2022). ICN2 comprises 19 research groups, 7 technical development and support units and facilities, and 2 research platforms, covering different areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

This is a call for expressions of interest from excellent postdoctoral researchers to apply for a Marie-Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship with ICN2 as host institution. Specifically, we are inviting expressions of interest for the following research group and project.


Host group: Nanostructured Materials for Photovoltaic Energy

Group Leader and fellowship supervisor: Dr. Mónica Lira-Cantú

The Nanostructured Materials for Photovoltaic Energy Group (NMPE) at ICN2 is an international research team performing research on emerging photovoltaics, currently Perovskite Solar Cells. The NMPE group is leader in the fabrication and characterization of solar cells, especially on the study of the long-term stability of diverse photovoltaic technologies (e.g. hybrid, organic, perovskite solar cells). Our research lines include the understanding of the relationship between defects, transport properties and charge transport in semiconductor materials with the aim to deliver highly efficient and highly stable perovskite solar cells. We also work with the synthesis of novel nanomaterials with innovative properties that can complement our solar cells to create the next generation of self-power devices. Project topic: Defects in Perovskite Solar Cells

Our work on shallow defect passivation in halide perovskite solar cells indicates that their ionic-electronic properties (with a strong ionic component), together with their "soft material" nature, results unfavourable for the solar cell, causing ion migration, phase segregation and hysteresis. This is especially detrimental for the perovskite solar cell under continuous light irradiation where ion migration dictates the long-term stability of operational PSCs [1].

The candidate will work on the understanding and manipulation of deep and shallow point defect passivation in halide perovskite solar cells. The candidate will also work in collaboration with external research groups experts on defect characterization.

We welcome proposals related to synthesis of materials and defect manipulation and tuning. Applicants should have strong background in materials science, physics and engineering.

  • Candidates must be in possession of their PhD at call deadline
  • Candidates should have no more than 8 years' research experience after their PhD
  • Candidates must comply with the mobility rule, i.e. they must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the call deadline.
